I like the small ones! Suzuki Sierra 1.3 litre, the white one was mine and the grey one is my mate's. They went almost everywhere that bigger 4x4s go, the only problem I had was getting hung up on big rocks due to the small standard tyres. Mine was a daily driver as well and was great fun at an off-road park. Hilarious driving them on the highway though! Full throttle in top gear for hours and it would just about make the speed limit of 110km/h.

That Patrol is fantastic. I've just read your build/resto thread from start to finish. Great work. Any updates on it? Thanks! Much appreciated. It's not been used a lot lately as I've just not had time. It needs a few little bits doing such as the clutch cylinder, and I have a decal set to go on it once the paint has had a colour sand which I never got around to doing after it was resprayed. I do toy with the idea of replacing the L28 engine with something with more poke but realistically I have so many other projects I really need to leave this one "finished" even if it is slow and thirsty!

Maybe Dez can make up a turbo manifold for both the L24 and L28. Turbo improves everything BenzBoy

I have been harbouring a desire for an early Toyota 4Runner for a while now. Just wish I could find one!

I have a 2000 model L200, it was an import from somewhere but I have no idea where really. It's a 2.5 TD crew cab with manual locking hubs. Excellent off road and I just generally enjoy it. I've also used it for a good few weekends away, carried loads of gear comfortably. It now has 31"s and a canopy on the back. Only problem I can complain of is that the motorway cruising is a bit harsh, 3k at 70 in 5th and the fuel consumption is a bit of a killer. If only it was petrol and LPGd!

I had an L200 single cab earlier this year. I was very surprised at how good value they are compared with its rivals like the Ranger. I sold it to a Bulgarian who drove it back to Aberdeen from Norfolk then on to Bulgaria. He seemed a happy chappy.... Benz Boys Patrol is THE ultimate looking 4x4 for me, just perfect and Id not give a monkeys how slow it was as id not let anybody get past me anyway. I did have a 1999 Opel Monterray when I lived abroad, monsterous in size and would pull an indicated 112 MPH on the flat. As they were rebadged Troopers it had the 3LTR 4 cylinder lump, quite impressive actually.

I had a ranger before my L200 and the fuel on the ranger was so bad and was a large reason it was sold. The L200 is far better but still not great. The L200 seems to be better than the D22 Navara, although people seem to be swapping patrol or terrano 3.0 engines in with great results. I've just looked on eBay for a triton V6 petrol which I think came as an auto so that it can be converted to lpg but there doesn't seem to be many petrol versions out there.

I hear a few Aussies have had some interesting -very rapid- results come from fitting Skyline engines in them. There's more than a few of the TD42 models had their original engines chucked in favour of Cummins 6BT's as well. Apparently the standard gearbox (at least on the TD42) will stand up to them.

One of my customers has a Triton V6 on LPG. Though a 2004 model, it still has the unbreakable 12v V6 of the MkII Shogun. Cracking bit of kit! Steve

Yes the TD42 is slow, but tough as old boots. I know there's more that have had the TD42 worked on than chucked. I'd like to compound charge one, in addition to the usual diesel pump tweaks. The gearbox is the same as the Atlas trucks (also had the TD42) except the Atlas gearbox had a PTO outlet.

Smaller than these body-on-frame fellas, but definitely J and definitely 4x4. Can't help but love an SF5 forester (this one 'Angry Toaster' with full WRX swap)

That's a great buy! I had this in 2012. It was a superbly characterful thing and immensely reliable - much more so than the Land Rovers I have a fetish for. The chime that was reminiscent of a small child's hand-wound music box, which sounded and got progressively faster as you approached the Japanese speed limit, was the undoubted highlight.
