Hi everyone I'm new here and I'm hoping for some help and advice. I have a 1983 swb series 3 landrover and I'm hoping to install a mercedes 605 td engine. I've been told that I can get a conversion kit for the 4.6l range rover auto gearbox (hp22 I think) I was wondering if anyone has tried this conversion in a series landrover and if so will the length of the gearbox cause me problems with the rear propshaft?

I'd be more concerned about the suitability of the shift points on the autobox and the stall speed of the torque convertor.
You should make shure that the version of the ZF4HP22 you get is from a diesel Discovery as it will be more suited to the torque curve of the Mercedes engine.

The conversion kit available is for the 4.6 v8 so I aren't sure about the bellhousing bolts patterns being the same. My plans may have to change regarding the mercedes engine
