Will listen to PX and Swaps.
When I set out looking for a 740i it was purely to tick the V8 box (See here.. retrorides.proboards.com/thread/193062/bmw-v8-barges-update) and I knew I couldn't keep it for long but I'd been lusting over a V8 for a while.
Anyway that time has come, I thought it'd be a good idea to put the ad up now as I'm not expecting it to go straight away being a humongous gas guzzling barge I understand it's probably a small market.
Enough of that... here's some info.
BMW 740i Shadowline
P registered 1996
4.4l V8 Auto with Sport.
109,000 miles
MOT 16 October 2017.
A bit of a back story on the car.. I bought it locally of a mature chap who had his fair share of BMW's, his reason for sale was lack of use and that his some had just given him his old (mint I must add) E39.
When he said he didn't use it much I didn't realise how little he meant until I looked at the MOT certificates. It has done less than 2000 miles since 2011! A deal was done the rest is history.
I'll be honest, whilst owning it I've done nothing to it apart from add fuel, drive it every now and then for either getting to work when I can't get a lift or just for enjoyment.
Good things.
Cheap tax and insurance! Tax = £20 a month and I'm 28 and insured on a classic policy for just over £350.
Low milage and done less than 2000 miles in 5 years.
The black leather interior is in really good nick no tears anywhere or wear to the bolsters which is really quite impressive and unusual.
Pirelli P Zero tyres all round, fronts have plenty of tread and the tears are nearly new. The spare is new.
Staggered style 32 wheels inc spare.
MOT certificates from. '06,'07,'08,'09,'11,'12,'15 and '16.
The car required a new exhaust system in 2006 due to corrosion. The previous owner had a replica of the original exhaust made in stainless from manifolds back by Cobra Sport. He was adamant that he wanted it to look stock including the down sweeps. I have the invoice here for £1200 and a 25 year warranty!
It really does sound the part but not excessively loud at all.
The phone works! the screen is a bit dodgy like but who doesn't want a working car phone!?
It runs, drives and stops perfectly and yes.. as you'd imagine, it shifts.
Electric everything. Cruise control, Dual AC, Electric seats, front and rear parking sensors, CD changer, TV (requires digi receiver), Telephone and probably tons more as you'd imagine in a 7.
Bad things..
boooo. None of these points have really bothered me but in the name of an honest sale I think you need to know.
The paintwork isn't great, don't get me wrong it isn't appalling but it's worth mentioning. There are scratches here and there and there's an annoying little dent in the OSR door. The paintwork on the front part of the roof is poor and so is the bonnet.
The NSR window and sunroof won't open. I never sit in the back and it's never sunny so..
The screens on the heater controls have fallen asleep and are blank (you can get new ribbons for these and plenty of instructions online).
There's invoices here for coolant and oil filter in 2015 but I haven't serviced it while I've had it so probably worth an oil change.
Front centre cup holder and ashtrays inop. I think the cup holders have had a drink spilled in the mech and are sticky.
This is the one which I'm worried will put people off. Don't let it!! When you first start the car a message comes up on the dash reading Transmission failsafe prog. From what I can gather this is probably a voltage problem? The car shifts, kicks and works fine in sport/manual so I can't see it being a mechanical problem. There is not problem at all with the gear changes so it's never caused me any hassle.
Headlining is sagging at the rear.
Rear arches are going on the lip, could be saveable I reckon as they're only showing on the underside. One side is worse than the other with blisters at the bumper join. Odd blisters and small patches of rust here and there.
There could be good and bad points I've forgotten and I'll update if I remember any.
Contact 07411989842 I work shifts so if there's no answer please leave a message or sent a text and I will get back to you.
Any questions, please do ask! Cheers Neil.
