I notice that the latest Petrolicious vid shows a caption at the bottom of the screen when showing driving sections of the vid. "Professional Driver On A Closed Course Do Not Replicate" Bullpoo say I. Actually, for most states and counties, closing the road is a very simple process; you notify the local sheriff's department, fill in the required forms, get permission and permits, and they have a representative come out and close the road for you. Different roads at different times have different costs but for what looks like a remote road on what is probably a midweek morning, the cost won't be that high. Notice that they're running up and down the same section for all of the 'pressing on' footage. *n

Slight digress but media wise I've contemplated this on the Police programs where they're driving with one hand while the others on the radio. Officers are legally allowed to drive while on the phone I believe due to their extra training. News to me, and I was a copper for 30 years.

News to me, and I was a copper for 30 years. I mean I'm taking that advice from police interceptors, so make what you will of it. The truth behind it is that traffic police are subject to the same laws as regular police as well as civilians. The key difference is that the police can and do ignore those laws with impunity where we cannot because they arent going to nick their mates, and it is entirely down to the discretion of the copper who does and does not get tugged for breaches of aforementioned laws. Having a banging oair of tits, good legs and a nice smile often helps you out there. Being in your 30's, knowing the law, and entering into a dialogue by politely defending yourself has the opposite effect. As a side note it is also worth pointing out that a policeman can and will "decide" that you have broken a law, for example one might decide that you weren't wearing a seatbelt when you actually were and book you for it, just because they don't like your face / are in a bad mood / have a quota to fill. Sadly you have absolutely no defence against such tactics, being a lying civilian and all, because a police officer's word is law. Or perhaps one might book you for "obstructing traffic" or "illegally parking" when you witness a car crash, and place your car with hazards on deliberately to prevent other vehicles from driving through the debris, and then book you further for disturbing the scene of an accident when you drag the smashed up vehicles with a tow rope off the junction to allow traffic to flow (I believe they call it "taking matters into your own hands" and "trying to be someone you aren't" and that you should "leave it to the correct people". Thats the point where they like to also book your perfectly legal tyre for a made up rule about tread depth for "that particular type of tyre")... or perhaps it happens to be your birthday when you stack your car in poor weather into a lamp post on a roundabout and he is convinced that you "must have had an afternoon drink" because its your birthday and you crashed next to a pub, and repeatedly breathalises you despite readings of zero every time. Sadly such instances of currupt dishonesty marr the reputation of the good ones and all get tarred with the same brush, which is why faith and trust in the police is absolutely empty by and large. I count myself as one who lacks such faith, it is my firm belief that quotas, dishonesty and corruption have made police forces utterly untrustworthy and ineffective, and any dealings with the police immediately put me in a position of defensiveness, and the presence of police makes me nervous, uneasy. paranoid and fearful rather than reassured. :-( Not that I am a synic... I'm quite positive that contents may vary from copper to copper.

Fad, may I have that chip on your shoulder when you've finished with it, I haven't had my tea yet. Cheers, and have a Rover P6B with police spec springs as a penance for a lack of pics.

On the mainland UK closing the road doesnt, do anything to the speed limit, it needs an Act of parliment to do so, Hence why we don't see tarmac rallies and the European hill climbs in the UK. - this is changing however, the closed roads bill has been passed and the power to lift the speed limit has been handed to local goverment.
As far as the Police go, ive had mixed experiences of them ,you get gooduns and wronguns. All it takes is one with their head up there own bottom to ruin a persons perception of the police force.
