I'm looking at making something like this for the back of my Elgrand I can't work out how to fasten it down though. I don't want anything permanent, nor do I want anything sticking up when it's not installed. Unistrut spring nuts have been suggested, but they look way too big for the existing rails. The narrow point on the rails is about 8mm, and the widest part inside is about 15mm. Problem is, I can't see any definitive dimensions for one of these nuts. Everything says 41mm x 41mm, and just looking at the pictures I can tell that's not the case. Does anyone have any other ideas? fr€$h&m1nt¥ ?

T slot nuts? They come in various sizes I believe. If none suitable it shouldnt be hard to make.
Is the channel existing? If your fitting channel you should be able to buy matching channel and nuts.
Not sure if that will do what you want.

Do modern pickups not have a system like this in the back ? Izuzu and Mitsu's ? I would just rob something from one of them rather than trying to make it from scratch unless you have the relevant skills .

Yeah, it's an existing channel that the rear seats fasten to. T slot nuts might work, but I'd need a way of getting them into the channel as the ends are capped. Img courtesy of Freshandminty

Have a look at Unwin seat mountings I got a few sets when we stripped SHMOB'd coach to make a camper van. The runners have circular cutouts along their length, the mounts on the seat have upside-down "mushroom" heads. The mushrooms fit down thru' the holdes, then you slide the seat to an un-holed bit of track and clamp the mushrooms to lock in place. Simple Not the best pic but you get the idea ps. I think I still have a spare pair of mounts (no tracks) if anyone is looking for some

I'm trying to use what's already in the van. T slot nuts seem the closest to what I need I think.

Just make something. 7.5mm wide 5mm flat steel, hole drilled in it, tapped, shouldn't be beyond the average spannermonkey

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner but only thing I've thought of is to get some C shaped spacers made up that have holes in the bottom piece that the standard rail bolt goes through and a captive nut on the underside of the top piece that sits flush with the carpet / foam.
Then the bike rack can be bolted into the captive nuts when required.
Only catch with this is that you're restricted to putting the mount in line with the seat rail bolts unless you have a board with relevant offset bolts for rails / bike mount.

Those threaded plates in your first post.
Do these not work because they are the incorrect size?
If so why can't some custom ones be made? Shamfered on the leading edge so that they locate and secure whilst being fastened and then when slackened off turn into the channel so that they can be lifted out of the seat rails along with the seat?
If I have totally missed the point here sorry in advance.
