Can anyone help. I'm sure there as a tread going about old car mags. Street machine, performance Ford.. Etc. But I cant seem to find it?! I'm trying to find one particular mag that had a pair of mk3 Escort van on the front cover. Both running Series 1 RS Turbo body kits on them. One was painted white. One painted Yellow. I thought it might have been Performance Ford magazine's from about 93ish.. But I've been unable to find it. Anyone able to help?

Definitely Fast Car and 1993 would fit with when I was reading it. I believe it was the same issue that had a box-arched Mk2 Escort Estate with a Cologne V6 in it. I'm certain I've seen a copy on eBay recently.

By the power of R&R......
You know what I realy miss those years...
The car mag years,no internet and a subscrition if you were lucky...
Waiting all month for the next copy then reading the full issue over and over till next installmant is due....
Reading the readers letters kind of like a fragmented group of car nuts doing our own thing in our own part of town/country.
Now with the web its like were all conected able to intereact and share our passion of suck squeese bang blow....
And scrap yards will never be the same thanks to Ebay. No more Sunday's spent racking about for upgrades and bits and pieces to "sort" your motor ...
good times.....
Ahem well sorry chaps dream over....

Simpler times, when some generic five-spokes and £60-worth of Tiger Stripes made you (feel like) the coolest around...

It was all about Revs for me and my mates. Loved that mag when it came out (Think I was about 17 or so). The writing style was always irreverent and slightly anarchic. Features like the Dogs Tour'd and World F'Cup with four guys in cheap knackered motors were great and looked like so much fun. It had some fantastic practical articles in it as well though, stuff like vehicle maintenance and an excellent series on "fast road" driving with Dave Clarke, bits of which have really stuck with me and have kept me safe.
After a few years it became a low budget, tits n ass, Max Power rip off, which was just embarrassing and disappointing.

I used to get Fast Car kept for me at the corner shop in the village when I was a kid. The main one I remember is a Mk3 that was tiger-striped. Had a cherished A-reg on it from memory. Perhaps that was the first issue I bought?
In the summer I turned 19 I worked for TPL as a temp in the Uni holidays. They printed Max Power, Revs, Performance Bikes etc. It was great getting to read them before they'd even hit the shops. The staff car park was pretty cool as well - all young lads working 12-hour night shifts so nothing better to spend their money on than their cars.

Early Max Power was incredibly good, but gradually went downhill into what it became. It rebooted for the last year of its life and was actually very good, but the interest had gone and there were a number of editorial errors, but it was a good effort at something different.
Revs came out and tried to do what Max Power did in the early days and break away from what it had become. Again, that soon when downhill.
In modern times, the best multi-brand modified car magazine was the last incarnation of Redline. I thought that was brilliant and such a shame that it died out.

I've got a mega stash of old car mags at my mum & dad's still. I must dig them out soon.
I used to enjoy Redline too, was a bit different. More glossy and polished than Revs, but a good read.

Been reading practical classics since I was a school kid 1984 to the present day, always a top read and it's moved with the times ,with later more modern classics I don't think I've ever missed a copy since the mid 80s

Practical classics is the only one I've really stuck with but over the years I've probably tried the lot I think I've still got the hat you got with the first Fast Cars mag. I loved the first incarnation of Retro Cars I've still got them somewhere but haven't bothered with car mags for a while apart from the aforementioned Practical Classics and the odd Classic Ford

I really liked REVs and would love to get my hands on some old copies . I remember the light blue Golf mk1 gti owned by some surf dude , god i wanted that car so bad . And the lhasa green mk1 that was owned by three blokes up north somewhere . It had a g60 engine in and teh story was about them rebuilding following a crash after a race . I'm not sure what mag that was in , if it rings a bell with anyone please tell me !

I started on cars and car conversions readings my dads when i was 11 or so . It made me want to understand more and more about cars and engineering i guess , to where i am today . I can actually remember that my college course was advertised in it so they gave me the route to take !!

Was it Revs that built an orange Forest-arched Mk2 Escort with a Pinto and EFI? Didn't it start life as a Harrier?! Loved that car...

Yep , i think they gave it away for a competition . I liked the white mk2 featured in a early edition , with a 1800 zetec . Very much a new thing back then and quite a shake up . No more faffing around getting pintos tuned to curse word !
