Back in 1994 my parents bought me, for my 21st a wreck of a Triumph Spitfire to restore as it had been the car I'd wanted for several years but couldn't really afford a decent one. Here's the only pic I can now find of it during the resto, poking out from behind my Dolly. Several years later and probably more spent in total than the cost of a decent Spit my resto was complete, which included a swap to an overdrive box and more new metal than old left on it. To say I was disappointed when I finally drove it properly for the first time would be an understatement, as it was far from the sporty, good handling car I'd always believed it would be I sold it a few months after I first MOT'd it and bought a 944, which is a whole new story in itself !

I think the most disappointing car I have driven was a BMW 320 Touring (E30 type); I was running a Triumph Acclaim at the time, which was pretty awful and I desperately wanted to like the BMW ... but even compared with the Acclaim it was slow, dull-witted, uncomfortable and, well, just plain horrible

My sisters Audi A2. Waaaaay too small for my size. My shoe could not step on the gaspedal without stomping the brakepedal too. I have size 12 , so not exceptionally big. Bumpy ride , deels like falling in a corner and the handbrake lever sits so high, your constantly feeling if it's not on. Hated every mile

Ah that's a shame, the A2 is a brilliant concept. Evidently not for everyone though.

It was a Alfasud Sprint Veloce I had driven a few XR3s at the time and they were ok,so I thought the XR2 would be quicker as it was lighter it just didnt seem so It may have had the gummed up choke then?

Aston Martin V8 Vantage at a track day. Astons are my all time favourite cars, I was sooooo disappointed with it. My ST Focus was faster I think.
I then drove a Porsche 911 RS I think, it was lime green with a roll cage. I wasn't a fan of Porsche but this car changed my mind, it was awesome.
Lamborghini Gallardo(?) was also absolute curse word. Dull and boring. People really spend £100K+ on these?

Been looking to tick off another car from the bucket list recently, been out in a Impreza WRX PPP and a 350z, both from which I walked away feeling underwhelmed and a little disappointed as I expected to be blown away and fall in love, especially the zed.

I have been having hankerings for a 350 for a while so this is disappointing!

I have been having hankerings for a 350 for a while so this is disappointing! Don't get me wrong, they are lovely cars. Great ride, power, decent interior with awesome seats, that sound! Just no one thing that made me have to have it and that was even when it was priced as a steal, still one of my favourite cars but I'll be content with YouTube clips of their sound, for now at least!

I was, er, enthusiastically driving to Norwich once in my MK2 Scirocco Scala and an ST was trying to overtake. Though I was timing roundabouts and using the road properly to overtake on roundabout approaches and being creative and clever, he seemed to rely on just forcing his way through and driving like an curse word but couldnt get close to me. I dod wonder at the time that he should have flown past me. My Scala was 125bhp per ton, an ST is more like 160 per ton. Guess power aint everything! Surprisingly a Fiesta ST weighs 1137 kgs and has 148bhp, so a power to weight of 130bhp per tonne, which might explain why he couldn't overtake. Still not the best hot hatch of its era, but fairly cheap second hand now. Oh, I thought they had more poke than that? The Scala's ace up the sleeve was the weight, it was just a roller skate with an engine. Loved that car dearly, but it had to go with the kids etc. Didn't even have inertia belts in the back lol! No sound system in mine either. And a leaky fuel tank, a cam belt that was almost manufactured nearer to WW2 than today, a handbrake that didn't work properly, a radiator pipe that was held together with plumbers mate, a jubilee clip and a hastily necked can of boddingtons and a nasty tendency to go much quicker than I wanted it too lol!

2000 Astra SRI. Borrowed it from by then boss to do a trip to a supplier. Got back and was asked what I thought of the car... my reply was it went well for a 1400.... At which point he scowled at me and I was informed it was a SRI 2ltr and his pride and joy....
I though it was a pile of junk and my 1990's Fiesta 1300 went better....

Went to Florida a few years ago and had an "SUV" as our rental car. By the time we got to the desk (we'd been delayed) they only had a few vehicles left - 3. There was a Kia, a Hyundai and this: The GMC Terrain. Being in the US, I thought a US car would be the way to go. Oh boy did I ever make a mistake. No room inside for its size, very uncomfortable and unbearably slow as it was a 2.3 litre IL4 with a dog slow slushbox and weighed the same as a small oil tanker. Thankfully being in a touristy area of the US there were not too many bends to worry about. The only saving grace was that it had a reversing camera. Even that looked out of focus... Oh, and did I mention that it was butt ugly? Had a Jeep Compass whilst in Texas (it was either that or a Miata Mx5 auto) and that was very similar. 2.5ltr auto... slow, noisy, thirsty (not that you care much as fuel is cheaper than water) and errm odd handling. I loved it as it was so bad it was actually interesting!

Ohh, almost forgot this turd (library pic, but it was the same) Had one of these (black SRI) as a hire car in early 2009 to get back from Heathrow, was quite happy as I had been given a Corsa for the journey down (which was also a turd of a car, but I expected that lol) Now I don't really like Vauxhalls anway, but my god it was curse word, slow, rubbish on fuel & felt really cheap & a bit 90's inside. I have more recently had a (well 2) Insignia's as a hire car & was really impressed with how that drove, right up to the point it broke down with 600 miles on the clock (hence the 2 lol)

BMW 840 for me, after all the hype I expected something special. Felt very underwhelmed & looked forward to getting back into the 306 I had at the time! Just seemed to lack the power I expected I suppose & handled like an overweight sea lion on roller skates

Most of the bmw's I have driven seem to fall into that category, particularly the smaller engineed ones, slow dull interiors handling no better than a Mondeo! (oh and they don't seem anything special for reliability either).
Worst based on all sensible basis was probably was a hire car we had in the states, booked cheapo compact hire car and when I turned up all the had was olds cutlass, drank fuel like it was free (well it was virtually) not very fast for a 3.0 v6, handled like a boat and the interior was straight out of the 70's (1991 car though!) despite all it's shortcomings we loved it!

I've never driven a car which I had been expecting would be great, if you see what I mean. They've all been as I thought they would be. I must admit to being pretty anti-Beemer in the 90s, so when I drove my son-in-law's E30 318i for a few miles I was hoping it wouldn't be brilliant, so my prejudices would be reinforced, and although it was nice enough, I certainly didn't feel it was worth the hype.
