First refill of the car. 76 litres used and 375 miles covered which is about 22mpg.
This included a 200 mile round trip at 80mph and the rest was short journey's to work and the city and i don't tend to drive for economy. Ill try and do better with the current tank. Especially as it costs over 100 to fill.
No faults to report though

The original plates spacing was weird so fitted some pressed alloy plates. Also took the battery and tray out to check for tinworm. The arb mountings were solid but a small patch is forming from the inner wing. Luckily not near the mounting. Ill get a patch welded in when the weather is better.

Fitted 4x6 alpines in the front and put in dynamatt and 6.5" in the rear in some modified speaker cups as the car didnt come with any. I did order a new head unit a retro looking continental one but they sent the wrong colour. Stereo sounds pretty good now. Just front isnt great as small so no bass. Will consider a small under seat subwoofer

Stunning car mate. I have a W123 and absolutely love it. It is a 1983 and drives with no rattles knocks or bangs anywhere.
I always fancied a w126 but it would never fit in my garage. let me know how you get on with the under seat sub. I want one for my e39. The w123 already has a 14" Vibe sub and a big amp in it! Just need some front speakers for that!

The car was advertised as having a new driver seat base to cure the dreaded seat sag but i think that instead they have swapped the passenger base for the driver as the passenger seat is dead and you sink right to the floor. To cure this i looked into the foam bodge and decided not to do this as its not original and would deminish the bouncy cool spring seat ride. I managed to find a whole seat set on eBay for not much at all. They are manky blue cloth but from a much lower milage car. The plan is to take them apart and refurbish the bases and then swap the covers over. Found a source for replacement springs if any need replacing.

Seat bases stripped down, springs changed and foam spring helpers inserted. These are from a w124 but fit the w126 to give more anterior support to stop the seat folding forwards and also better support laterally when cornering. I found some more inserts from w124 that support the posterior side so will order these this week.

Great work! I need to repair the seat of mine as well. Your wood trim looks really fresh.

Thanks general clem and bahncard. I would have liked some more toys like cruise, heated seats or electric seats but i guess less to go wrong. All i have are electric windows, sunroof, steering column and one mirror. The rest is base spec. I gave the car a good clean and replaced a few bulbs. The wood is in pretty good condition with only a very tiny bit of lacquer raising on the very edges of the switch panel. Not even 1mm id say. New stereo. A bit too modern but i was able to change the colours to match and now have spotify.

The passenger side electric wing mirror was the highest spec possible for all w126 if I'm not mistaken. The commutable switch from a '92+ w124 drops right in, but you also need to change out the connector, add the wiring and retrofit the motor into a w126 mirror, probably more of an undertaking than it's worth.
Cruise control is nice, but mine didn't work and I never got the chance to look into it while I had my car.
Heated seats should be a pretty easy retrofit and I would look into it if I were you. The seat elements from MB are dirt cheap and the switches are simply mounted on a different shape of coin tray in front of the gear selector.
As for electric seats; I rather have a car without than with. I'd only consider it if I'd use the two memory positions all the time (if wifey also drives the car for example).
Cheers!

The burr walnut root wood is an extra. Standard was zebrano.
I'm very jealous of your rear bumper chrome. Mine is shot.

Changed my coolant and flushed it a few weeks ago which must have cleared the crud keeping the water in the radiator. Came back to the car to find all my nice new coolant on the floor. Got a new nissens radiator. Was easy to change. I noticed the transmission cooling lines that go into the rad looked a bit shot so need to order some new ones. Not sure where from though as unable to find online

Try one of the Autodoc gmbh websites, they seem to have the biggest variety of parts, if not go to MB directly, they actually have fair pricing for most upkeep parts.
I got a big coolant leak at my passenger heater core, that's a bit of a bigger undertaking, probably just gonna close the loop for the summer...

Great effort and it's nice to see another 300 SE being saved. As for your transmission lines: I second General Clam's tip of going to the main dealer. They often enough are cheaper than the aftermarket. When I did the radiator on my 300 SE a couple of years ago I had changed these flexi-hoses, too and they were something like 10 € each. Just in case you didn't know this already (or any future W126 owner out there reading this): the radiator's weak point is that little plastic tube at the top where you connect the hose leading to the expansion tank. This tube has a tendency to snap off, so handle it with care. Btw: the radiator's original manufacturer was a company called "Behr" and their stuff really is up there when speaking of quality and durability. They made a slightly bigger version for the W124 which only came from the factory on heavily optioned cars. It slides right into the 126 and gives you about 4cm of additional width. I'll look up the parts number if you like, these things as nos occasionally pop up on ebay. Keep up the good work and enjoy the waftiness!

Thanks for the info. Sorry for delay I don't come online much. I got some 16x8 et11 penta which are rarer than the usual 15s. Not sure if I'll keep them yet as unsure about modifying the car too much. I will fit them and see what I think. They have a polished lip but the lacquer covering it has degraded in places. Can I remove the lacquer and keep the polished lip or do they need fully refurbishing?

Hi there, thought id post an update, not been doing much car related stuff or anything for that matter!, mainly due to having a baby in October which has been great but busy. MOT was at the beginning of Jan, which it promptly failed on a leaking exhaust. But I was impressed that it was limited to that which should have been an easy fix! Should!, its taken me about a month to get it sorted as the baby has taken most of my free time and then the weather has been rubbish, I tried to sort it in the snow but almost got hypothermia so called it a day. Its finally on, so I'll book in for a re-test this week, the stupid tax rules means that my tax has now expired though as it did not have an MOT for a few weeks. My insurance was also due and they required me to send some new photos of the car so I thought i'd share them with you. Nothing has changed other than the new shiny exhaust tips which are a retro slash style with waffle. I sold the penta alloys, I regret this but I made some money on them and my inner delboy took over. I think i'll try and find some w140 wheels in the same style or the R129SL 16inch drain lids.
