I wasn't going to post this up as it's more of a restoration rather than a modification build, but as George and Ash asked so nicely in my Mad quad build thread here it is
Unfortunately the said Wheel Horse isn't actually mine but belongs to a good friend Neil who asked Nigel and I to get it up and running and maybe sort the bodywork out..
This Wheel Horse is a bit rare in the UK you might say, with only one other known RJ imported by another good friend Chris known as The Showman in Wheel Horse circles..
These RJ's were hand built by Cecil Pond himself who was the founder of Wheel Horse.
Neil's RJ also has a bit of special history, Neil imported it from a chap called Michael Martino who is the author of "Straight from the horses mouth" which is the ultimate WH book/bible, so it's a bit of an honor to be working on it
Right, let's get some photo's flowing..
It didn't take long to get the belt guard and hood off..
The first job was to have a look at the engine, it has good compression and after a bit of plug and plug lead cleaning it has a spark.
The engine pulley is not quite in the right place on the shaft, it should be closer to the engine..
Me thinks the pulley needs to turn a little on the shaft as well.. A "key in the way" could be handy as well
Having not worked on an RJ or any really early Wheel Horses before this er.. brassy bit on the back of the pulley confused me for quite a while until I worked out it's the reverse er.. cog thingy... I will show it in action in a later video..
In fact the whole drive belt system confused me for a while until I disconnected this spring and then everything fell into place..
