Good old rover k series. Usually when I've done a headgasket on a rover the oil gets in the coolant.. now it's reverse. Heads off however the sump is obviously full of mayo mix, oil and water.
I can drain it obviously but I'm going to waste a gallon of oil and new filter by refilling it when it's not clean. Is this just how it has to be?
Clean as much as possible, get rid of as much mayo as possible, new filter, new oil, run it up and then do the process again in a week or so?
Thanks.

Throw the cheapest oil you can find in there, get it warm, pour in a can of flush and drain out.

Pour a gallon of diesel in it and run it for 5 minutes then drain off it'll be spotless. Used to do it all the time.

Water will eventually evaporate out of oil anyway. Suppose it depends how bad it is.

Think I'll try the cheap oil route It does work but i wouldn't ever do it neat! I have mixed a litre of diesel into the recommended amount before instead of a flushing agent and only on an engine that was being stripped down afterwards just to give it a thorough clean.

As said, cheapest thinnest oil you can find, run it warm, engine flush in there, drain it out, and be ready for an early oil change later on.

So glad these aren't common in my garage anymore , it took as long to get the water and oil clean than it did to do the head gasket

Yeah its been a pleasant job tbh. Car is back up and running now, first turn of the key.
Turned out halfords had an oil sale on 10w40, add a trade card gave me £11 a gallon.
So you reckon run it about a few miles and then just do another oil change?
I do like these engines. New HG and they're right as rain.

Or have you not flushed it yet?

Home Bargains sell semi synthetic for £10 for 4 litres.
You could try putting a catch can from the sump breather to head, the moisture always ends up rising.

Halfords did 10w40 for £11 a gallon.
I let the engine drain overnight, pulled the filter, refilled with curse word oil.
Gave it 100 miles and did it again, oil is now lovely and clean and gunge free. When i drained out the first time the oil looked clean tbh as did the filter. I presume it all dissipated.

Most of it probably burnt off. But better to change it and get rid of all the additives that will have been floating about.

I have read people use a litre of ATF. Never tried it myself.
