Dust the tool box off and do a bit of woodwork for a change.

So instead of messing about with pedal cars, scooters and stuff for my grandkids and filling the garage with more "stuff" I didn't need I decided to go back to my younger days. I do mean my younger days, like 40 years ago, well that is when I made this toy Beetle for my little lad, I made it for his 3rd birthday and he was 43 on Wednesday.
Where the hell did those years go
I used to make loads of toy trucks when the kids were small and most of them were given to friends & family when my lads had finished playing with them but I kept this one. This Beetle is about 12 inches long and still rolls just like it did all those years ago and still on it's original floorpan



So when the chance of going to a mates workshop came along when he was on holiday, I thought why not.

Luckily I did keep some of my old woodworking tools so they came out of hibernation and a couple of the results will be in the next instalment 

just waiting for the battery to charge up

The first couple of visits were just really getting used to working with some offcuts and tools again.
a couple of bird boxes were made for neighbours, then they got a little more shape to them

The next project was a little more ambitious and is currently a work in progress.

it does look quite nice now it has had 3 coats of Danish oil, hope to get another coat on tomorrow or Friday
than I can start on the top

should have a pic in a couple of days if I remember to take my camera

the top has now been attached and sanded ready for some Danish oil when I get the chance, pics later this evening

I decided to use an old school method of fixing the top to the frame which allows the timber to move if needed.





the frame is virtually finished just needs one more coat of wax

it just needs a few coats of Danish oil and a couple of coats of wax, which will probably have to be next weekend





decided to leave this as a bit of a feature along with curved lines all round

That's lovely.

Seems a shame to cover it all up with computer gubbins. It should really be gently reflecting the bottle of whatever takes your fancy on it.

You do have a very good point there and I do have a couple of nice bottles which have been modified to light up





might just be a rethink on the table

You sir have some skills! I wish you lived nearby so I could learn some from you. I buy n sell softwood & hardwoods for a living so would love to be able to make stuff for my granddaughters.
