thought this was a poor mock up of a replica kit, but on Gov.com it comes back as being a Bentley with a 4566cc motor tucked under its hood, on Autotrader it is unknown, unknown 1935. looking at the photos could it be a genuine tourer that has lost its original elegant wings and running boards, and replaced by mere mudguards and a side step, it just dosent look BENTLEY to me 1953 BENTLEY TOURER by shagracer, on Flickr 1953 BENTLEY TOURER by shagracer, on Flickr 1953 BENTLEY TOURER by shagracer, on Flickr

very interesting. I have nothing constructive to add as to if it is or isnt a Bently/kit or otherwise. The bonnet line fits the grill very well, and the grill looks like a real one. The mud guards and the trunk are awesome. I have no idea what the rest of it should or shouldnt look like but the windscreen surround looks well fitted. It just doesnt somehow look big enough to be a bentley, but mabie its just the lack of running boards and small tyres that makes it look smaller. If it is a real one, it might just be the most awesome shoestring make-do-and-mend budget Bentley ever. Nice plate too. My guess is its a real one with odd proportions.
scrap that. Ive had another look. I really don't think a real one would fit in that parking space.

Looks like a home made Bentley Mk6 conversion. That would fit with the age, first registered 1953.

Proper Bentley dash.
And it's awesome, the sort of car that can clear a path through lesser tin tops!

Probably a Bentley bonnet, grille and bulkhead and a car build up around it. Hubcaps look more Riley RM than Bentley, though since they're called the Poor Man's Bentley they do fit what's attempted here.
If you have the scraps of a Bentley and the means to turn it into a working car, this is a fun way to go about it. This was probably built pre-internet too so you have to be a little gentler on the owner/builder of it since you made do with what parts and info you could get your hands on and resources were far more limited than they are now.
It's pretty easy to ridicule this sort of car, we just have to remember it's somebody's pride and joy and it brings some much needed diversity to the roads.

That's not a Bentley in any way. It's an old kit car with bits nailed to it. It's junk, but if it makes the owner happy then that's all that matters.

My dad used to tell me a story of how he was offered a Rolls Royce for £100 (if I remember rightly) but turned it down. It was the early sixties and you could probably buy quite a decent second hand car for that price, but still not a lot of cash. I think this car started off as a similar deal from the same era and the owner chucked off the original bodywork and built his own vintage style sports car body, thus ruining any future value. Full marks for effort, 2/10 for style. You just have to look at the rear view to see how well (or otherwise) the body flows in to the bonnet. Just for reference, This is probably what he was aiming at:- And this is is probably/possibly what he started with:-

As above. Quite a few Bentley bits including the bulkhead, the rest is scaffolding and hoarding. I can't tell if the chassis is Bentley, it's similar and has been hacked to bits if it is and the rear spring hangers are in the wrong place, but the length of the rails are long enough from the back wheels to fit the original shell length. That dog house bolted to the back will help hide the fridge sized fuel tank. The rear bumper looks like an S2/3 one that's been to war with a chop saw. Did you hang around to see if Noddy appeared? Good luck to the geezer, it's certainly interesting but it could use some work. Still, it's a rare sight, the vehicle has covered 1745 miles since 2006!

Per my first thought above, I'd lay good money on this being a home brewed Mk 6 special. Loads of them were butchered/converted in the past.

Whatever it is i like it! I know it's dog-turd ugly, but there's plenty of potential there. Just a few tweaks and maybe a bit of action with the Saws-all, and angle grinder, and maybe a bit of time with the sparkly stick and pretty soon you could have something like this... Then we'd all be saying how cool it is!

Alan Clark's rebodied special did a much better job. I'll try and remember to post a pic from Backfire when I'm back at home.
Story went it was stolen and rolled in the New Forest. It was rebodied as a hot-rod of sorts. Looks great.

This is deffo a Bentley mk6 "special" built on the chassis of what was probably a rotten saloon. As prev mentioned, this kind of onversion was done to lots of these cars. At one point a good mk6 could be had for a few grand so a rotter would be pennies. The standard of build was usually just down to the expertise of the "builder". Bentley mk6s are now worth plenty

Ugly piece of crud, although Noddy & Big-Ears would have probably loved it.
Sad if a rotten Mk VI was dismembered to create Crankenstein's monster here, better it had been scrapped!
