Is that really lancia written on the engine block? Where did lancia use that engine in (if they did)? If it's anything like the VAG group, with VW/Audi logos in all the castings, then it is no indication of actual use. It went even further, my father was a VW specialist who was brought a cylinder head to work on that he didn't recognise, but it had VW/Audi castings on it. Turns out that came out of a Porsche, and has never been used in any VW/Audi model. In italy , roadtax Goes by engine size. In italy you have Some models we never had. Like an aircooled first generation fiat panda , the panda 30. Do not know from the top of my head wich car this Bis engine came from , but I thought a first gen. Lancia y10. The problems they had with overheating are mainly due to the dacht that the original design for the engine was based on a moto guzzi motorcycle engine, wich was never used on a motor cycle. They added forced aircooling and used it in the fiat 500 at first. This engine is a development from this pre historic design. The problems occured with these engines , because in a car , this engine is always driven Flat out. On a motorbike it's never flat out. in Poland there are many cheap solutions for all your fiat 126 based problems. So be gentile , and she can do 50000 Miles without overhaul.

Engine all piped up and running well i think, though I'm a bit scared to keep it running long enough to get the fan running, need to check when it should cut in really. Fresh oil in along with new spark plugs. It has some bodged ht leads in there that need swapping out and i need to drill and tap the top of the carb as the thread that holds the carb top on is no existent. Ive also swapped out the gear selector bush and found the old one was very loosely fitted and worn. I still need to test drive it but i hope that has sorted my gear selection issue.
Took a look at the wheels and tried one on the rear. Its going to be very close to the inner arch and it may require some gentle persuasion with a hammer. Ive some how ordered the wrong thread wobble bolts but was able to tighten the wheel up using the original bolts for some reason. I think the holes in the wheel are made for a larger bolts so could be on to a winner there.

Took her for a test drive this morning and she goes ok, clutch is a little funny to use and the seating to pedal position massively off but kinda cool to bounce around in. All gears now select fine but now i can hear in there with the lack of vibration ive now found first gear sounds straight cut. Will need to investigate further, hopefully its just low on oil or something.

They always sound straight cut , especially in first.try to find some youtube clips and listen to them with the sound on. If yours sound similar , your safe. But change the oil anyway. Pig of a job , but worth it. empty with the big screw on the bottom, don't strip the thread!!! disconnect one of the axleshaft rubbers connected to the gearbox , 6 or 7 nuts , take out and fill trough the hole until it just overflows. The hard parts it that the car has to be level. Bis gearboxes demand a premium , so keep yours in one piece. I've made a rubber bung in the toplid of the gearbox so i can acces her a little bit easier and drop it in from the top.

good shout, cheers for that. will look up the recommended oil and add that to the list of things to do 80w90 gearoil. I told you a mistake. I'm confused with an other car of mine. Sorry. The fillplug is on the righthand side of the car on the SIDE of the gearbox , not at the bottom!!! The one with the square hole. You need the lengthenkng piece of your Ratchet set to open it. Fill with oil through the plug untill it runs out of the plug and Quickly close with the screwplug. Buy an oilcontainer with a long flexible neck , easier when you warm up the oil in advance. Sorry for my mix-up 😬
