Hello Everyone! I wanted to pop in and do a thread on this insane vehicle that we've purchased yesterday. It's a 1960 International Harvester METRO Van.
It's big, heavy, doesn't run and it's ugly. Sort of like me! lol haha..
I had been looking at this thing for about a month and my buddy kept saying "We should buy that thing and build it into something". Well, the day arrived and we drove down to buy it. We made quite a deal on it, turns out- the seller would love to keep the engine and chassis for his other project Internationals...
"Guess what buddy? You've come to the right place!" Perfect for a guy like me, I only wanted the body anyway.
We loaded it up and dragged it home.
Right now I am building another Coyote Pickup truck, a 1972 F250 from Arizona. A You Tube viewer has sent us his truck, to perform a Coyote swap, amongst other things. The You Tube channel is growing quite well and I hope it continues. If you'd like to see more on the Arizona Viewer build, it's all up on the channel.
But this METRO? It was talking to me. Then it spoke to my buddy. And BOTH our wives are on board with the build. They love it. I have to finish the Coyote swap first, but this will be "filler" work in between my regular job and the F250 Build. So what are the plans for this thing?
I have to work out how in the hell I will remove this gigantic body from the frame. I have an AWD Hemi Chassis just sitting here, waiting for something, so why not? Yes yes- I know... another "AWD HEMI Durango thing"... But hey- imagine a lowered hot rod van with cool wheels, 4x4, loud exhaust and the new owner's logo on the side of it? A food truck- or a Bicycle shop van or a motorcycle hauler- A Zombie Apocalypse vehicle or a Parts business supply runner... The possibilities are endless. From the moment I saw it, I said out loud "If I had the money, I would buy that in an instant!" About a month later, it is behind my little garage and my good buddy Dieter and I, are going to team up on this one and as we say in 'Murica... "Git 'er Done".

Thats cool that, don't think ive ever seen one before not even a picture. Looks like a big Morris J van. I can just imagine it dumped on big wheels keeping its patina.

Yep, beautiful. Much more '40's/'50's styling than 1960!

Mate, a van like that makes even a bloke like you look good.....where can I find one for myself.... ;-)
Anyway, I just sit here and let you do your magic! It's in good hands for sure. Have you a spare Viper engine laying around somewhere? It's just an idea...

That's so cool! Following this build. I'd keep the original patina.

Yes, we are keeping the rusty rat look on this one. A Viper engine would be cool, right? If I can't get this to fit properly on the frame I already have, there's talk of a Cummins Ram truck chassis. It's really not in the budget, but we will work it all out as it unfolds. Super FUN this thing!
Here's the video from the day we picked it up:

It is polished stainless. I'm going to back light it with a green glow for the after dark shots. I'm also going to get the METRO emblem that sits above it. There are also trim rings that go around the lights and the headlamps. It'll be ok, I think.

I'm all into ratlook on cars , but this car really deserves a decent paintjob. That's a thing of beauty!

WOW! Some of those are amazing! It's all about the thrill of the chase, the build, and the sale. I can't wait to see how this turns out!

You see, I'm the other way, I'm not so into ratlook, i think its kind of overdone, but i like the look of that so much as it is that it would seem a shame to loose it. I'm not a fan of these wheels either except for on that. Just looks right. And the worn out signwriting.

Knew from the first pic that you were going to buy it; it's your flavor of crazy sauce.
Have you done the math bit where it wont fit through the shop door?
