There are Facebook groups for this? Oh yes, quite a few out there depending on your tastes... also lots of Instagram and youtube feeds as well. Matchboxgarage seems a popular one on youtube, does resto's and customs.

Matchboxgarage seems a popular one on youtube, does resto's and customs. Thanks for that, been quite litterally glued to youtube videos of people restoring and modifying toy cars! Some of those folk turn out some incredible stuff. Got me thinking about this junk I bought in poundland a couple of months back... Its a Maisto toy, and the thing that got me most was it's atrocious wheels. I thought it was somebody elses casting that Maisto had bought to make their own model from, my feeling was that its a re-hashed Matchbox car. So I set about looking for a Matchbox Firebird, and pretty soon had one, it's close, but not close enough to use the Matchbox glass and interior on it. I've also bought a Corgi, ERTL, Majorette, HotWheels and Johnny Lightning Firebird, but none are as close as the Matchbox. So as I couldn't get any of the parts to fit I figured that I'd just make do with what I've got, and this is what I've created... It's not perfect, and nowhere near as good as a lot of you guys customs but I'm happy with it, and it sits on the shelf pretty good!

Has a nice gloss finish.

I did clearcoat it, I used pound shop rattlecans from primer to clearcoat, although I just left the base in primer because the finish matched the Matt finish of the wheels.

I found this little beauty in Home Bargains, its called a ZURU Metal Machine, the base is metal, but everything else is plastic, anyway the model is called poison ivy, and it looks like this... I really like it, but I thought the molded in colour finish was a bit curse word, and I don't like the orange windows, or chrome interior, anyway, I turned it into this... Not really much I could do with the colour of the windows, but I painted the louvred rear window black like it had come from Auto-Plas, and I detailed the interior as best I could. There are a few different designs in the Metal Machines range, has anyone else tried doing one?

Reminds me ive got one of these to do something with. Cant seem to find the time to do that sort of thing at the moment. It'll keep.

Just one to show you, a recent trial. Lesney Land Rover station wagon, chassis replaced with one from the new matchbox Land Rover pickup. Almost spot on. Needs a little bit of fettling to get it to sit right, but very little.

Cracking job there PP, I've got loads I want to do this with, bit doing the tiny fiddly details really annoys me when I balls it up, then start again, then lose patience and throw it back in a box

I keep looking at the hideous little Maisto HotRod in poundland called Knuckle Dragger. For me there's quite a lot to dislike about it, like the roof chop is too severe, but the worst thing of all is that it has Thomas the Tank Engines face on the grille!! Anyway, I keep looking at it and the other day I had a vision, and splashed out £3! I bought the hideous Knuckle Dragger hotrod, along with a Porsche 911, and a Baja Bug. Took them home and got out the saw... and created this monstrousity, the Porsche-Rod! I'm not sure it's any better to be honest, but I kinda like it! Atleast it no longer has Thomas the Tank Engines face!

I often look at those Teamsterz models in ASDA when we shop. I don't want to like them because they're fantasy models, although sometimes you can clearly see what they're supposed to be. Anyway, This one I secretly like more than the others, and so I splashed out... I'm not sure that it's actually supposed to be anything in particular, I think it's just a pure fantasy car, and like I say I sort of like it. I think the problem for me is the side exhausts, I hate that bit most of all, but I decided to keep them anyway. So, one cheap ass car, one hotwheels car, and one can of bright red metallic paint from poundland later and I've got this... Must've been the pinker end of the bright red scale I guess. I even kinda like the side exausts now if I'm honest.

Been doing a bit of painting Corgi Starsky and Hutch Gran Torino. A drop of poundland paint and I've got the Green Torino. Did these Corgi models only ever have black windows, or did the earlier ones have an interior and clear windows? I think the later ones were called GT’s or something similar , The earlier ones had clear glass and full interior, the gts had a plastic base
