So I went to Ultimate Stance 2017. I'll admit, this wouldn't necessarily be a show I'd try to attend, but Hotwire had asked me and I thought to myself that I really should try new things I tried to take some pictures but was foiled by indoor lighting (my excuse) and crowds, so alternated between SLR and camera phone. Ill try and keep the same cars together if I can, but I have quite a few pictures to wrangle. The stand all set up and ready to go before the crowds descended Shiny and ready to go Retro arcades looked like a fun way to empty the wallet Epic Imp Didnt seem to get an exterior shot of this immaculate Porsche! I'm a sucker for sparkly paint Jags seem to be popular. I strangely liked this T5 Slightly incontinent American tin made me feel better about my own oil retention issues Itasha style Lupo? Fabias put in a strong showing Included due to love of 3 spokes. Suddenly ZX wagon. I cant even remember when I last saw one of these! Can you tell I liked this Jag? Mmmmm purple. It mystifies me how I haven't bought a purple car yet. W124s always look good. MMmmmm sparkly. I'm not overly sold on the squishy pink roof but I get why its there I'm not sure what happened here, but twas a splendid Nova nonetheless. Mmmmhmmhm pipes. The funny trumpet lengths on VR6s always looks pretty funky. I think these wheels had a Dodge logo in the centre... anyone recognise? I thought this car was pulling off some awesome flat disc affair from a distance, but sadly not the case. I like to think this was done by Milhouse when he got older and started getting into cars. I failed to get a proper picture of this, but was digging the bronze / red theme which can be super tricky to pull off. Fiesta was interesting, especially the bench seat and coppery theme. I've got a bit of a thing for turbo hondas with bonnet exits right now. So so so brown. Mmmmmmmmm brown Z Yellow Saab was very intriguing with its subtle tiny intercooler and air ride. This A2 confused me slightly. Was digging the single seater action in a car no one loves much, but it has a hydro handbrake. Just for supermarket car park hooning? Sorry if things are a little disconnected, but I've run out of energy to tidy this up a bit more. Hope there is something you like Got to meet lots of people, chatted to Ade more than I probably have in total over many years and generally had a fab time

Great pics. Some amazing rigs. The level is high.. but no girls in patent stilettoes sat on cars? Isn't that what car shows are for?

Lots of coolness! Those wheels are from a Dodge Nitro...they're quite high on my 'cool OEM rim' list.

Great stuff, glad you enjoyed it There are a load of cars here I've not seen in other people's coverage. Particularly the Jags. This thing is super interesting: That is like a proper customised car! Would love to know more, anyone know the owner/builder and want to send them this way to tell us all about it?

I've never been particularly interested in this show previously due to what had been portrayed as a high VAG content. Yes it still is a high proportion but the amount of retro stuff really pleased me. I'll be honest, whilst there is a lot of effort put into some of the modern cars there, they just do nothing for me, and I'm certainly not a fan of showroom fresh otherwise standard cars on finance, air ride and rims.
Talking to one of the stewards apparently the Nova actually crashed into that postion! Story goes that he'd thrown a hissy fit because his car hadn't been allowed into the halls due to not being a high enough standard so he thought he'd demonstrate his disdain by attempting a handbrake turn in the car park at the top of the grassy slope. As you can see, he somewhat misjudged it and ended up beached halfway down. He then promptly scarpered back to his hotel room (there were rumours of alcohol consumption)

Like Mr Speedy, I've not really been a fan of the 'Stance' scene as most of it has been almost new Tat with finance funded rims n air but 90% of the pictures above are cool as! My favourite is the Brown/Burgandy Merc with cream alloys to match the inside. Sublime. That Fiesta is a work of art too. Top vision by the builder.
WTF is that Picasso though...

Yes it still is a high proportion but the amount of retro stuff really pleased me. We've been talking for the last few years about doing an Ultimate Retro show in a similar style. Probably paired up with an Ultimate something else, so we'd end up with a kind of 50/50 thing going on. At the moment this far hall seems to be the retro hall. I'll speak to the US people about it again, although 2018 is looking pretty busy for me already

It was featured in FastCar in the summer. The wheels are genuine copper plated and interior is bench seats. The owner is on instagram ... @dannystuart ... I chatted to him at Gravity Show in the summer, he's approachable enough and happy to talk about the build.

Well he certainly doesn't lack talent or vision does he!
Who would think a later Fez could look that good?

Thanks for introducing me to a genuinely new sensation - the desire for a Citroen Picasso.
Does anyone have any more photos of it? And the ElCamino lowrider too?

dannys an old friend of mine from when i was into the modified car scene, him and his mate kenny build the whole car in a shed with nothing more than basic tools from the air and stereo build right up to getting the car into primer and paint, the amount of effort and detail in it is something to behold. builds like this seem to capture the spirit of what building cars in the uk at home is all about, weve all been there. kept warm by endless cups of tea in a dark little dusty space you call your workshop. freezing winter months. lots of trail and error and a limited budget making things work. years of late nights and frustration and seeing something awesome emeerge. something so many of us can relate to, hats off to those pair
