Hi all spent the morning prepping the rock and roll bed system. Its made for a Fiat Ducato so should fit. Unfortunately it doesn't. Its a rock and roll bed with 3 seat belts and a slide system so the bed can be slid up and down the van which gives lots of flexibility to the finished van. Unfortunately the mount bolts for the nearside runners will come through the floor and end up inside the front to rear chassis member, not good. I have two options, modify the nearside inner wheel arch to allow the bed to move over an inch or so or mount the bed closer to the off side which will reduce the depth of my cupboards so making mounting the fridge and heater a pain. Will have to have a careful measure up tomorrow. Cheers - mike

Hi all have been fitting a seat swivel for the double passenger seat this morning. Was a pain to fit. Fitted it as per the instructions and it was useless so ended up fitting it several times until I was happy. Now its in and working fine but not sure I will fit one in future. If it stops raining later I will do some careful measuring up for the seat runners.Once that's done I can measure for the lower cabinets. Cheers - mike

Hi all Have had a good day so far All the doors for the bottom units are made. There will be others but these will be plain ply as they will be covered by upholstered panels. Going to make the kitchen unit front panel and that's it for today. Cheers - mike

Hi Soopafly
there's a 12mm ply floor so no need for additional insulation really as its a day van / occasional camper.
My next van is a long wheel base traffic hi-roof which will be built as a motorhome to include bathroom, heating etc so it will have insulation in the floor.I have stripped and working on lots of conversions over the years and not come across a camper with insulation.

Hi all
I finished the panels for the kitchen unit earlier and have spent a few hours ordering parts for a big push on it next week. I should have the bulk of the conversion finished for the end of next week subject to the bits arriving.
Won't be touching it over the weekend as I have a few jobs to do around the house for swmbo.
Cheers - mike

Hi all not got a lot done today as I spent a few hours sorting the electrics in my Vectra estate. Anyways I fitted the catches to the new front seat panel and fitted the doors to the front kitchen unit so thats ready to go once the customer decides on whether they want a blown air heater or not. I should have the seat mounted tomorrow given a bit better weather, It was minus 6 this morning and has been bitter all day. Cheers - mike

Hi all
still messing around with the seat for this. When the seat is in the right position the bolts for the nearside runner come through inside the chassis rails so its not possible to put the nuts on.
I am having to modify all the cushions, the back cushions need moving over by 38mm and raising 15mm and the base cushion needs to be moved and raised the same mount plus as the folding mechanism runs through the base cushion the cushion needs modifying to clear. Once this has been done all the trim panels will need redoing to suit.
I'm hoping to have it finished tomorrow though.
Cheers - mike

Hi all have had a steady day on the camper today. Got a bit done despite the curse word weather. I have finished and trial fitted the fridge housing and am happy with the fit.I have had to re-make the front of the kitchen unit as it just was not going to work as it should. The potential buyer wanted large double doors but this would not allow any access to the cupboard when the seat was in the front position so I have redesigned the unit to have a small cupboard at the top with a fold down flap and a larger cupboard at the bottom with a large single door to give access for the water container etc. Just got the large door to make and fit. Hopefully tomorrow I will get the mains inlet fitted to the side of the van,the consumer unit,on-board charger and feed for the socket in place. I can them insulate behind and fit a new panel. Cheers - mike

Hi all I finished the kitchen front panel this morning so I can now go ahead and make the interior shelves etc. I should also get the front electrical panel made this morning. Going steady though as its bitterly cold and my toes are frozen after less than an hour! Cheers - mike

Hi all Have had another hour or so. Have made the electrical panel for above the fridge. It has a double mains socket, the switch for the inverter/fridge and the volt meter / double usb outlet. Just need to pick up a dry wall box so I can mount the mains socket.

Hi all have done a few hours this morning. All the panels for the kitchen unit have now been finished. Had to do a bit of trimming here and there to achieve a nice fit. Never assume that these vans are square even when they should be as the production tolerances are quite large. Also cut the hole for the mains inlet, zinc primed the cut and popped the pre-wired inlet in the whole. It still needs bonding in on the outside but that can wait for a better day. The area has now been insulated and I have just got the trim panel to reinforce with 6mm ply and then it can be fitted for good. Doubt I will get much else done today as I have a customer car to get mot'd. I should have a good day tomorrow though. Cheers - mike

Hi all Its been a foul day here today, bitterly cold and constant rain and sleet showers. I managed to trim the exposed metal work near the drivers pillar and refit the interior trim panel. I have also fitted up the mains system, the consumer unit, wiring and on-board charger are all fitted and working okus the kitchen unit is now permanently fitted apart from the cupboard shelf. I have also found that there is a leak. There has been some dome on the floor everyday when I open up the van but as its been wet and I have been in and out constantly I though nothing of it but whilst working today there's a steady drip around the area behind the drivers seat. Its due to be a better day tomorrow so I should be able to get the ladders out and check the roof. Cheers - mike

Hi all
had a couple of hours on the camper earlier and investigated the leak. There are four tiny holes in the roof! They look like they have been there for ages and appear to be where the racking was previously fitted. I will be sealing them with sikoflex or something similar. Its a pain but at least I found them.
I have also wired up most of the 12v system apart from running the feed for the split charge as its to wet to be rolling around under the camper running the cable.
I'm hoping to get the core for the work top made tomorrow. It will be 12mm ply with a 3mm maple board bonded to the bottom and matt black laminate bonded to the top. I also need to make a new template for the hole for the hob as I lent my last one out and its not been returned.
I'm still on target for trip away in it next Friday / Saturday though.
Cheers - mike

Nice work Mike.
Just curious, might there be better insulation methods do you think? I used Rockwool once and the outer panels rotted out within five years. Am guessing due to restriction of airflow / dew point / condensation etc.
Think I’d spray foam if repeating the excercise.

Hi there Rock wool is fine for insulation. This is a fully galvanised vehicle with no existing corrosion. The only places I have had corrosion start is where holes are cut, so all cut edges are now zinc primed. There are other insulation systems available but they are much more expensive and offer no better result. I have tried expanding foam but I find it expensive and messy. Had a few hours yesterday and this morning and have made the worktop and laminated it in matt black laminate. The hole is now cut for the hob and sink unit and I have trial fitted it all. Going to fit the rear door windows this afternoon as the weather is good. Cheers - mike
