Also I have just seem the trailer for the landrover. It's either Bruce's landrover off here with a different reg or its a exact copy. Either copying the idea piecemeal or its his car and they are staging it all. I saw photos of their Land Rover a while back, was really looking forward to seeing just how they dropped it, but recently a Land Rover mag came through the post and it's the standard front axle, but with the swivel assemblies 'relocated' on drop plates at the end of the axle casing. Was hoping for it to be done properly with a traditional drop beam style axle. I think they channeled the rear chassis above the axle for it to sit up higher. Otherwise apparently it's a standard Land Rover... I googled it and it was for sale for 22k . It looked like a nice restored landie s1 or s2 ? I guess thats worth a fair bit to start with but now pretty much worthless to the landrover lot .... so if its the ' were making this to sell ' storyline then thats bullocks. I cant see many people paying much for that . Fair enough building one but who in there right mind will pay 22k for a butchered landrover ?

I think it was a fully restored Landy series 2, and the prices of them are steadily creeping up. I think it kept the original 2.25 engine, and something like that needs a V8 regardless! I really dig the idea of a slammed Landy, and every now and then look at my ex-mod 109 and ponder that thought. Only hard bit would be retaining the 4x4 as I do require that feature, and making a bolt on subframe with a IFS is definitely on the list of ideas to keep the fulltime 4wd....

By all means... its a cool thing. But who wants to buy one ready made for 22k ? Most people who would want that type of thing would want to make it themselves like you would .

Its a TV programme - has to appeal to a reasonably wide viewer base, so they can generate advertising income. There is a script, and there is often added drama such as tight deadlines, or bodies in the boot. I'm not in TV production, but I can see through the smoke and mirrors.
I'd rather watch Goblin Garage than EastEnders.
If I want something with more hardcore fab/petrol then I head to YouTube.

As I said in the Salvage Hunters thread, I managed 41 seconds. I actually think these programmes do our hobby more harm than good. They make Joe Public think that that we're all like that.

Wait, they did what? That sounds like a rather half ass way to do it, especially when they've not even managed to get it to sit level.

Got the mag infront of me, custom axle tube with the swivel assemblies bolted onto drop plates! Even an axle from something like a Sherpa narrowed to suit surely would've been better? On a positive, I do like the unpainted finish and rake, just needs some fine tuning to make it into a proper cool little hotrod!

I've yet to see a car program on TV that I haven't felt embarrassed about watching. This must be why my "normal" friends look at me oddly when I tell them I like cars. I was never a fan of Clarkson and Co but at least you could say that their show had great production values. If you muted the TV and ignored the presenters faces it would look good in the background. The rest of these car shows seem really sloppily made. And why do all these shows seem to have Van Halen style 80s guitar music all over the soundtrack?

I never realised this forum became a moanfest. For those moaning about the shows just remember one thing. Audiences. You need them for these kind of TV programmes. FWIW Roadkill is also on NetFlix but has a 2.5 out of 5 Star rating. That goes to show just how limited the audience is for that kind of show. Sure, I love it, but I doubt many other of my car mates do, bar a select few I know about. I was going to watch GoblinWorks but we shall see. WD has seemed a little lukewarm lately, but I've been enjoying GT oddly enough . It occured to me why I like The Grand Tour and Roadkill. None of the guys have huge egos or take themselves seriously. They openly mock themselves as well as each other, and while clearly having more knowledge than they make out like David Freiburger, they don't really shout about it. You can't really say Finnegan or Freiburger have a hint of arrogance about them. Those are the big reasons for why they still have me as a fan, and it's something alot of shows including the new presenters of Top Gear could learn from. We're only human after all, just like everyone else .

It's a discussion. Personally I want more from program makers and it's by saying nothing that we end up being subjected to rubbish like GWG. When you have 3 people declaring themselves as being super talented designers, fabricators etc they shouldn't be too surprised when their work is put under the spotlight. I appreciate TV companies couldn't care less but it wouldn't hurt for the ''builders'' or ''designers'' to display a little integrity.
Car SOS have a nice balance between Fuzz and his technical skills and Tim, with his comedy blagging etc. Roadkill is excellent and Gas Monkey Garage used to be pretty good too. This is a poundland version though. It's all slo-mo grinding shots, hipster beards and contrived jeopardy. Even Chop Shop was more believable.
As an aside, this is both excellent and free from faux deadlines!

I'm afraid I didn't get to the end of ep1, and ep2 is sitting, unwatched on my planner. Perhaps I'll get round to it but I doubt it.

It occured to me why I like The Grand Tour. None of the guys have huge egos or take themselves seriously. This has got to be ironic, right? Please tell me you're joking. Please. Unless I'm much mistaken, the Grand Tour includes Clarkson and his little gelatinous playground crony? Hang on, just let me double check... None of the guys have huge egos or take themselves seriously. Nope, it definitely says that. Just when I thought I was beginning to understand the world Oh, by the way, Goblin Works is utter, unadulterated, unconscionable (and lots of other words beginning with "un") bum gravy Picture of lowered Land Rover for positivity balance

We all have differing opinions and we all see different ways due to our experiences in life. Let's just say I'm surprised at how a few presenters have changed, including a few respected ones once they get a few bob into their hands. But I am strange like that. I'm referring here to a much loved current TG presenter and how he has shuffled his car collection quickly and has then gone on to say what all sports cars should be bar none. But that's just me . It's one reason why I like Roadkill alot over most other shows now surprisingly, and probably why I liked MCM for some time. Why PPC didn't do what Roadkill did is surprising ; it's not like they were lacking material to work with! To me, when someone knows they are curse word but are doing it anyway, fair play . OTOH you may have saved me and others a bit of time from watching GW, so that's a second positive surely luckyseven .

I watched the MG episode today as the 1st episode isnt listed on sky. I flicked through parts of it as I found it to be a bit samey and tedious.
The one thing that made me laugh and shake my head was the 'radical' body styling change. Really? What I thought was really funny though was that the 'master craftsmen' bought a new front and rear valance for it..but what did I spy in the background of the workshop.......an English wheelπππ
