because old cars are cool right? So is TIG welding and metal fabrication , yeah ! Nope, that's very very hot actually. Who is it on here, Daveyboy1 or something who has the matte black Mk3 Capri that's a bit Mad Max-esque? 'cause thats what it looks like they've copied with theirs. And quite blatantly too.

I found the whole programme frustrating to be honest.
Was really looking forward to last night, and seeing the Capri build.
I put a Coyote in my own Capri 12 months ago, and was looking forward to see how they had achieved it, and what their solutions were to the problems (believe it or not, I had even mocked up the same arches on the car...)
However, I was gutted that the programme spent more time showing tattoos, Mustang drag races, etc , etc, and virtually no content on the actual build !
There are many obstacles to overcome in fitting that engine, and none were shown. Most of us on these forums have a genuine interest in these type of builds, just look at the amount of build threads there are !
Just seems to be a wasted opportunity, shame.....

Ignoring the Capri BIVA/chopped to hell shell/identity issues for a moment, I've just found out something unbelievable about it.
Stock rear leaf springs.
Just let that sink in for a moment...

I actually agree with your point, and didn't really know what to do with this thread as it had a period of "hey yes you don't like Goblin Works Garage, but how about these good programs" ... which was more what I'd like from these kinds of things. Which was all well and good, but then they did the Land Rover thing and made some fairly spurious claims which set the whole thing off again. In some ways this thread stands at testament to be authentic. There isn't anything wrong with not knowing things, and putting "we think" before statements, as a way to start an engaged and interesting conversation. It is why a lot of youtube shows thrive, because they engage in an authentic manner (even if it is some weird manufactured authenticity). So yeah... I dunno what to do with this thread, but I wish people would make more engaging car television for enthusiasts as I suspect they would have Roadkill level success, instead of one/two series and then gone. This thread is hilarious and one of my favourites at the moment, opinion seems almost unanimous. Maybe program makers will take note though I doubt it. Reminds me of an ancient Chinese proverb "soldiers don't watch war films"

Yep, lots of war films in ancient China. Renowned for it.

Nope, not interested in an argument thanks. Just a little gentle ribbing to lighten the mood.
Think I’ll just go somewhere else for a bit actually, this is getting weird.

There are so many amazing builds here that i think some could do video shows and get channels on youtube, I know it is hard to make time to become a cameraman and editor but it really is good to see real work happening from real car enthusiasts not just some TV show were you see no real work just the end result.

The new Project Binky Unplugged is up on YouTube. At one point Richard says that the project is taking 3 times longer than it should due to the filming and editing demands.

After reading this thread a couple of days ago I thought I'd give it a go.... what a load of curse word, that Capri, I'm not a ford guy but why do that to a perfectly good solid Capri they aren't even doing anything original except maybe those awful wheels oh and 'Gran' isn't she an actress that has lots of back scene parts in UK dramas?
The Grill, seen that before I've even done it myself. all in all it's a 'look at me, I'm so great' program aimed at people who don't know cars, did that bloke really just turn up and hand over the asking price without checking it out because 'he always wanted one'. what he always wanted a Capri with a 5 litre modern engine?

TV Shows lie They always have.
They don't do all the wrenching — They're chosen for presenting ability, and how kind the lens is to them over their garage skills The drama is scripted, they build tension and jeopardy in to make it more 'engaging' The deals and sales are fake.
It's the same for all shows like this - whether it's cars, gardens, cooking, house makeovers etc etc.
Once you're over that - you can handwave the BS and enjoy it for the small nuggets it does offer.
I know it's fake, the hipsters are annoying and it's clear they don't come up with the concepts, but I've skip watched them all so far (with the FFWD remote close to hand) and can't really see how people are getting in such a twist about it.
Mmm moving pictures of cars on my telly screen.

Lol, literally just watched the capri one in 15 minutes.
If you ffwd through the filler it's less bad. Not sure on the grill, should have deleted the rear wiper, jury is out on the side pipes, and not sure on the wheels. Oh and it could have been a bit lower. BUT I did quite like it.
If your trying to make money on a car, it doesn't make sense to start with a rotten one.

I do still watch this but more for entertainment than info. The lifted truck they built this week must be lethal sat that high on leaf springs with no panhard rod or anything. Even my Wife said "Surely that can't be legal"

I have tried hard to give the program " a chance" to entertain me and not be too hard on it but as said re the Capri, it's the detail which is often so wrong. I have owned a 59 Apache with a small block fitted and can assure you that the Goblin "creation" of theirs must be downright frightening to drive on that suspension and bleedin drums left on the front! Like a pwat,I will watch it through the series cause I have a illness which makes me watch anything car based

'Graveyard Carz' is / was another of these American resto shows but was actually quite good. In a break from American tradition it wasn't overly dramatized and they craftsmanship and attention to detail was really up there with the best. No 20" chrome spinners or tvs in the boot or smeg like that; it was about restoring classic Mopars back to original and usually concourse spec. After a few it got a bit repetitive though and in my humble opinion you really can't beat Gas Monkey when one of their builds was on top form. Except Roadkill. That just beats everything. NasCarlo anyone..?
