I think the Trans-Am was about the only choice they could make for a car at the time, most muscle cars were little more than a sticker option by then But when the film was being shot, production hadn't started so they had to use the prototype cars instead! They were a mix of manual and autos, but they all took a severe beating, I think 6 were used? If anyone has the title song as an MP3, it's your duty to let me know

Shame the sequels rather tarnished the franchise.

Another slice of useless movie trivia: The Trans-Am's engine note was apparently way too weedy, so they dubbed on the sound of a big-block Chevy afterwards. And not just any old big-block.....the one from Two-Lane Blacktop/American Graffiti. "396?" "454" "No sheeeeit" GREAT movie though!! ;D

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

I love this film, one of my all time faves! ;D Jackie Gleason makes it though, he has all the best lines. Interesting concept I found just now with a random Google.

Awesome film. Me and my mate are trying to find a base spec one so we can bosh a 350 chevy in, stick a fire chicken on the bonnet and drive like curse word everywhere.

I'd just like to state here, in public, that Jack is a hero - cheers mate. And Jerry Reed singing "Eastbound and down" will be accompanying me home tonight as I ride.
I just hope I can keep those smokeys off my tail ;D
