Also, managed to find time at the weekend to do more on the lathe. I got it all back together, but on running it up, I discovered i'd somehow got grease/oil on the belt and pulleys, so anytime I put a tool on the work piece, it would just stall. To clean all this up and remove the belt (it's a normal car fan belt it seems) requires the gearbox to be dismantled, which took a bit of working out. It also took quite a bit of working out to put it back together, as I forgot to take pics of where everything went before I stripped it

OK, new parts are arriving I've decided to go with 'pit bike' wheels at the rear, as they seem sturdy and have mounting for a brake disk, so will be easier to true up to the calipers. I've had a watch list on ebay for a few months and last week two popped up, this (new) one below at about £26 delivered, and a second one (used) at about £11 delivered, both are 2.50-14 with 15mm axle bearings. I have 15mm pillow bearings ready to go, and I think I have some 15mm bar too, but this evening will be spent rummaging in my metal bin quick pic of the side that has the brake mount:

2nd wheel arrives it's a bit grubbier than the other. but it was £2 plus postage, AND comes with a disk and an axle. The other bar is some more 12mm stock to make an axle for the other wheel.

Some progress, not much, but it's a start First up, got the frame out of 'storage' (inside my T2) and gave it a coat of primer Then offered up the new rear wheels I'll need to move the existing mounts as the calipers are too low down currently but they are wide enough to take the new rotors Then some more paint - this will probably be living outside now, so needs to be reasonably rust proof I also decided to cap the ends of the a-arms, as they looked like a potential weak point both sides done more paint next up will be making axle mounts for the rear, but I may need to order some more pillow bearings, but as these wheels already have bearings, I'm wondering if a 'hard mounted' axle would do the trick anyway ?

something tall, just so we stand out, probably a routemaster bus, either a trad red one, or possibly the purple one from Harry Potter, it'll depend on how much we can be bothered to dress up

Also did some more on the lathe, it's now working again properly cleaned the back pulley arrangement to remove att the grease contaminateion Span it up too, so I could wipe the 'v's in the pulleys with a cloth After tightening it all up, it's working no stalling under load I think the main bearings are worn (it is nearly 70 years old!) as the cuts are not perfect, but for me, it's good enough for now. Parting off is also better now, much less chatter, but runs hot, as can be seen by the 'chips' but I think thats a dull tool or the wrong height, more practice needed

Nice rebuild with major improvements and glad to see some new metalwork from the shock tower to the main frame for strength over the jumps. Looking forward to seeing the new theme for this year.

Looking forward to seeing the new theme for this year. yes, more bracing will be going on the front. I also need to work out the best way to limit the suspension travel - at the moment it can bottom out under extreme load, and I think its better to stop that rather than fit a skid plate.

Skid plate will make sparks though, will look like F1. Watching in-car footage from the GP yesterday I was amazed at how bright the sparks were from cars.

well, I do have some titanium in my metal stash, perhaps i can limit the travel to just have the skid plate touch the ground....

Well, today was race day. And it was great fun Apologies for literally no updates since April, basically my former partner decided that 'we don't have anyything in common' and left me, no discussion, just left. She is buying me out of the house we bought together so the last few months have been rather busy, but while I considered just weighing in the kart, I decided it would be good to do something cnstructive while I still have a house with a decent sized garage, so I managed to finish it off. I totally ran out of motivation to do any bodywork, so I cheaped out and just wrapped it in cardboard and sprayed some flames on. It looked ok on the day. I also did a bit of metalwork to make it a bit more curvy. I was going for early ford hotrod, but well, I was close, but not that close

Sorry to hear your news.
That course looks a lot narrower than the Red Bull ones. If I'd have known it was on I would probably come along. I think the winner of the recent London Red Bull event was from the Bristol area.
Apologies if this hits a nerve but who gets the dog?

Apologies if this hits a nerve but who gets the dog? Not me :/ I haven't seen our dog since April, it's a real kick in the teeth :/ But I will get my own dog once I'm set up at my new house.
