frontera has a steering rack with its output pointing forwards into a V drive type affair to allow the column to pass over the exhaust and stuff.
only thing that comes to mind is that the engine sits really tall in the 4x4 chassis, so a lot more intrusion than a traditional van with its engine under the cab.

Yes I'm thinking that chassis would would be a good choice.So you think a Diesel i was wanting a petrol as thats the way forward but that maybe me thinking wierd.If the ca had a bigger front end there would not be a problem.I have even thought of making it have a bigger bonnet front end but i think it would lose the nice shape of a ca.I don't going into things blind i do have a good think about it.But alot of heads think better.Before many moons ago you could cut the chassis make it smaller.I want to do it the legal way.I did it with the Trojan.And the reason i want a 2005 ish donor the private platea that you can put on that year are cheaper.My Trojan plate was only £250.I'm really greatfull for the ideas

The engine hight does give me concerns as i wanted the ca low.I was goning to drop the body low over the chassis.mmmm Is there a truck chassis.I was even thinking Reliant simitar but they are 1980s.I think the chassis would be strong a v6 and auto.But i really wanted a newer donor. |

you can get a lovely 24v 3.2 izuzu v6 engine in the frontera, 200 bhp 200 lbft, only downside is the lack of fuel economy.

This sounds great! if you want to stay petrol go for a short wheel base Frontera A series 1992-98 years, the early ones were leaf sprung on the back then they changed to coil springs, with the 2.0 8 Valve engine its nice and simple with loads of bits that can be swapped around from the Cavaliers/Astras/Carltons of the period and reasonably narrow up top, I think all the diseasal engines might be a bit wide up top for the CA?

Yes i think the Vauxhall Frontera is about the best best chassis.Still want 2001 reg or newer so i can put on a ok plate somethink like PH52 VAN to go with my PH53 BUS

Could you disguise any bits of chassis with a bigger bumper or similar ? My old Herald made use of the front overiders to cover the bonnet hinges.
The only other things I could think of with a seperate chassis are Iveco trucks which will be too big.
Is there anything where the front section of chassis bolts on ?

well if you go Frontera B series I would avoid the 3.2 V6 as the bits are expensive and thin on the ground in the UK, if your sticking with petrol then the X2.2SE/Y2.2SE is ok and was used in the Omega B, its a cam belt engine rather than the nasty Z2.2SE chain driven engine, the only thing to bear in mind is they have major instrument cluster problems which stops the speedo working and there are loads of different versions dependant on chassis number, pretty sure they are all no longer serviced by GM as well, some had ABS which again is a major head ache as you cant get front ABS sensors plus there are 2 types, also coolant header tanks which are no longer serviced again and there are 2 types! not trying to put you off just bits to bear in mind!

So I'm i better going Diesel.I do like the nissan cabstar engine and chassis as i know about them,But 16 ish inch over hang on the front plus the steering box will be right at the front so would not be a good look.

yep the same problems, the thing with Fronteras is even though they are basically the Isuzu built under licence the engines were Vauxhall sourced which means lots of bits are Vauxhall specific and specific to the Frontera, the axles were also UK sourced so nothing crosses over to the Isuzu, they still offer great value for money if you can put up with the parts hassle though!

How about a badged Isuzu or are the Vauxhall with a different name.I need to try to get the chaissis right as i cannot waist money plus time stripping.I do have to pick a hard bodyshell.Maybe i be better going Landrover

The Isuzu equivalents are all Isuzu so its all J content but even rusty dogs go for strong money, I think they all get bought up and exported somewhere.... and then you see them on the news with big guns on the back!
