I borrowed a friends Legacy for a week when he was on holiday, it was the 3.0R Spec B with the 6sp manual box. Smeg on a stick it was fast and the engine note was awesome even at low speeds. And such a lovely car to sit in too, felt decent quality with the leather seats and Momo steering wheel. Handled amazingly well, like a go-cart.
My friend updated the stereo with a double DIN unit above the heater controls - you can buy the fascia parts you need as they were available in japan but they can be very expensive. Looks good now its in and the steering wheel controls still work.

Looks good now its in and the steering wheel controls still work. That’s good to hear, everyone I’ve spoken to has said they’re alot more chuckable than an estate should be! Yeah I did look into those JDM fascias, about £200 plus a load of faff as there is no standard wiring harness adaptor. I’ll find a way of getting a decent bluetooth connection to the standard Mcintosh system as it has an amp and subwoofer already part of it, and it’d be nice to keep those. Still waiting on the NOVA confirmation, been 3 weeks now... HMRC need to pull their finger out of their rear... |

I liked following your Integra build and I really have a thing for the Subaru Legacy! Do you have this on the road yet? Thanks! I do like a little ramble about my cars! Unfortunately not, holding out hope this weekend might be the one though! So the NOVA finally got signed off on the 12th September and I sent off for the reg document the day after. DVLA say 5-10 working days so I'm going to give them a call Wednesday to see if it has a reg assigned to it yet. Hopefully I've sent off all the right information and filled in the right boxes, for those interested that is: Completed Application for V5 - this comes in the used vehicle import pack that can be ordered from the DVLA Original Japanese export certificate - this gets destroyed by the DVLA so I've taken a few copes, it even has the original Japanese registration number on it so would be cool to get some replica plates made.. MOT Certificate - done on chassis number Proof of address and ID for registered owner - so a copy of my driving licence A cheque for the fee for registration (£55) and 6 months tax (hopefully £140.25 if I've worked it out correctly) The car also needs to be insured on chassis number so this was hastily done the night I sent it off, just transferred the insurance from the Integra over as I can't afford to insure 3 cars (including a daily) Anything over 10 years old shouldn't need type approval so shouldn't be relevant for me but I believe a newer car would need a certificate of conformity and/or a IVA as well. We'll find out if I've screwed up or not this week! If I haven't then many photos of a Legacy on UK plates will appear here at the weekend. |

It's road legal! Already put about 350 miles on it since Saturday morning, essentially all I did was chuck some plates on it and put some air in the tyres and it's been great so far. Averaging about 35mpg on the motorway and alot less when having fun. It's a genuinely fast car, and has power all the way through the revs which is not something I'm used to! Also for big family car on winter tyres it's very nimble and confidence inspiring, so overall very very happy so far. Photo time, all are before I even had a chance to wash it. Because we all know driving is much more fun than washing.    I have pulled off the factory protective film from all the door sill trims, how often do you get to do that on a 13 year old car! Also has a genuine mat set in great condition and lots of random Japanese stick on electric gizmos. The sat nav is going in the bin as it's only in Japanese, and the toll card reader will go as well it keeps talking to me in Japanese, and gets in the way of my knee. There is however an aftermarket automatic headlamp sensor, which I've never seen before, which actually works really well so that will be staying (plus god knows how it's wired in).  Cheeky engine bay shot, note the coolant splashes around the reservoir. One of the pipes was detached, luckily I noticed it after doing 200miles...  So what now? Spend lots of money on fuel Spend lots of money on a set of summer wheels Probably spend lots of money on a louder, stainless exhaust Spend more money on fuel Finally a parting photo to demonstrate the size difference to the Integra. Ultimate JDM do-it-all pair? I think it is for me (in a realistic price bracket). Pity I'm trying to sell the Integra, though I won't be gutted if I don't get any interest at the right price as I'd really like to keep both...  |

2500 miles in already...
600 mile weekly commute is a bit of a killer at 30mpg on super unleaded but apart from that i’m very happy to say it’s been spot on so far.
I’ve removed the rubbish Japanese sat nav and a ton of other random wiring from behind the stereo, there’s still alot left but I didn’t want to do more harm than good.
Other than that nothing to report which is a good thing. Going to start using my diesel daily again so I’ll give this a well deserved oil change and fit a mesh grill that I bought to give the front a little bit more of a sporty flavour.
Next is to get it undersealed and protected before winter comes.
After that I’ll be looking at the car modification starter pack of:
Wheels - needs 18’s and some stickier tyres (the winters it has on at the moment are rubbish when it’s dry)
Lows - maybe some STI springs, or coilovers if I can get a good deal
Exhaust - needs more noise, far too quiet at the moment. Nothing too lairy, will look into getting a subtle custom system that gets rid of the secondary Cat and makes it sounds more exciting
Remap - this combined with the exhaust should get me to the magical 300bhp mark that I desire. I won’t be going any further as I treasure reliability more than numbers
All of the above depends on my Integra selling so hopefully it does and I can start making some fun additions to this car

Lovely car, I much prefer the looks of the gen 4 over the gen 5 I have. Keep on top of the oil changes as the boxer can use a bit and they are apparently sensitive to a lack of oil changes.
They are very popular here in NZ for lots of great reasons!

Nice to see another Legacy fan here! I've never had one but am absolutely committed to importing one next year. Hoping to score a WR-Ltd or maybe even try for a 'Tuned by STI'. Just got to get the house move out the way first...! More Legacy adventures please  |

I was looking at these briefly and was underwhelmed if I'm honest. I prefer the older ones. Can't beat the sound of the boxer engine although I'm not a big fan of the way plastic covers are utilised to cover the engine.
But tastes are subjective and I'm a firm believer that anything can look cool with the right mods. I think it needs some different wheels though!

Thanks for the interest! Yeah it definitely needs some better wheels, the stock ones are really quite boring.
No boxer rumble here due to equal length manifolds, which is why i’m keen to add a bit more noise. I’ve been quoted £750 for a full custom catback system, so will need to save some pennies for that!

Soooo... It's 16 days into the New Year and I've put my Legacy up for sale.
Honestly it's an all round fantastic car, and is perfect for me in almost every way. Comfortable, fast, fun, fits an Ikea wardrobe in the back while being fast and fun. The problem is 30mpg and a 600 mile weekly commute does not make economical sense with the decision I've taken of keeping the Integra. I've been ignoring this fact for the past 2 months but the time has come to be sensible and buy a diesel for a daily. Pretty gutted as I haven't even had the chance for donuts in the snow!

How much have you put it up for? I love these Put in on Faceballs for £5k, I've seen another car I want locally so want a quick sale so I don't lose out. Had one guy come and test drive it already and love it, but I'm not sure how serious he is. Interestingly he has a previous shape Legacy Twin Turbo and said this felt much faster, considering they were rated at 276bhp I was pretty happy with the comment! |

My friends Legacy Spec B 6sp manual 3.0R struggles to get to 25mpg even on the motorway........ but the noise.......wow. Worth it!

I recently bought a Legacy 2.0R, the 170bhp version of these. If i calculate correctly 30MPG is approx 9;5l/100km Mine does about 9l/100km, so that would be 32MPG approx. So if you plan on going that direction it's not worth it! If only it'd be possible to register these in Belgium!  |

This is gone now, was picked up by it’s new owner last week. Sad to see it go (especially the day before all the snow arrived!)
Has been replaced by an Alpina D3, which I think is actually just as rare in the UK as one of these! However it will also do 50mpg with not a huge loss in performance so ticks both of my boxes. Far too modern for RR though!
