So work on the morris and escort has been put on stop for a while to build Mrs_Misfit a summer palace. its still a work in progress. She wanted to buy an off the shelf one but I thought they all looked cack and with our sunny end of the garden not being square it would waste space. I did a rough design of one. Garden BBq area assembly1 by jono_misfit, on Flickr Garden BBq area assembly4 by jono_misfit, on Flickr and if Mrs_misfit gets a new summer house, it seems only fair I get a new storage shed into the bargain (right hand side). its going here in the buddleia jungle that has gotten a bit out of control 20170514_142547 by jono_misfit, on Flickr turns out a disassembled buddleia is quite large. 20180403_110512 by jono_misfit, on Flickr borrowed a 110 off a friend. achieved a tip run in 1 go 20180405_123720 by jono_misfit, on Flickr task 2, remove the raised flower bed P5204724 by jono_misfit, on Flickr P5204725 by jono_misfit, on Flickr a not insignificant amount of digging later.... P5264744 by jono_misfit, on Flickr marked out the ground P5264743 by jono_misfit, on Flickr hardcore P5264746 by jono_misfit, on Flickr work out base slab positions P5274747 by jono_misfit, on Flickr start bedding in P5274749 by jono_misfit, on Flickr infill with concrete P5274750 by jono_misfit, on Flickr base in 20180602_081241 by jono_misfit, on Flickr 20180602_081248 by jono_misfit, on Flickr 20180602_081255 by jono_misfit, on Flickr a fall set across it so it drains onto the paved area a quick abutment wall put in 20180602_081338 by jono_misfit, on Flickr set out a base frame 20180615_202238 by jono_misfit, on Flickr 20180615_202238 by jono_misfit, on Flickr start the frame 20180616_171942 by jono_misfit, on Flickr more framing 20180618_173733 by jono_misfit, on Flickr more framing which is a pig because none of the angles are square..... 20180621_120748 by jono_misfit, on Flickr roofing started plus general construction detritus. 20180621_185752 by jono_misfit, on Flickr continue the roof, and start panelling (front ones are just to visualise the colour) 20180622_210427 by jono_misfit, on Flickr state as of yesterday, more panels on 20180624_174847 by jono_misfit, on Flickr 20180624_174853 by jono_misfit, on Flickr 20180624_174901 by jono_misfit, on Flickr I pained all faces of the lower boards to preserve them as long as possible. The back wall is difficult to get in to paint so I paint the boards before fitting. The other walls are accessible so the can be painted afterwards. Back on it this weekend.

Excellent work, but could I ask that you put a "Don't let your wife see this thread over your shoulder after she's just asked about having a craft room instead of the shed in the garden" in the title.
Cheers.

Great build.
Those odd shaped and sized walls, roof panels etc do challenge you more than people realise.
Watching with interest.

This is why I like metal as you can cut and reform, weld and tweak.
Wood only gives you one go.
Just got to work out where all the swaged gussets need to go....

Great build - will be a nice space. Amusing to see the lefthand fence suddenly become new - yours or your neighbour's?
How on earth are you fitting the back panels? is there just enough room to lean over from inside the "shed" and screw/nailgun them on?

I was going to buy new panels but the neighbour had a couple of new ones so fired them in.
There's about 300mm between the back of the summer house and the fence. All the rear panels have been fitted from inside so far, but the remaining 6 will all need to be fitted from the rear.
I've been starving myself in preparation.

so got a bit more done this weekend. painted a few length of ship lap P6304751 by jono_misfit, on Flickr put some undercoat on the door and window frames where the wooden panels will but up to. P6304752 by jono_misfit, on Flickr continued on with panelling P6304753 by jono_misfit, on Flickr P6304754 by jono_misfit, on Flickr that was the easy side, now for the back this is the space I need to get up to access it. I have to think thin thoughts. P6304755 by jono_misfit, on Flickr it narrows slightly in the middle as my neighbour put the fence up well.... after cooking in there for about 2hrs, the rest of the panels were in P6304756 by jono_misfit, on Flickr The started on another wall P6304757 by jono_misfit, on Flickr end of work for the day as I was well and truly cooked. did not feel good for most of the evening. Hot weather and me do not mix well. starting to look a bit more building esk P6304758 by jono_misfit, on Flickr got the rest of the panels on the short side. P6304759 by jono_misfit, on Flickr P6304760 by jono_misfit, on Flickr then made a start on the small infil panel next to the shed door P7014761 by jono_misfit, on Flickr to ensure it looks good and has something to attach an overlapping joint to i've put in a 25x25mm piece of wood to butt up to. P7014762 by jono_misfit, on Flickr quick coat of paint to protect it P7014763 by jono_misfit, on Flickr and that's it for this weekend. Was feeling properly cooked again.

I really like this but I'm deliberately NOT showing it to my wife because I know full well it's exactly what she wants!

Nice work - not sure I'm thin enough to have done the back part!
Any time I build anything like that I have to ensure it's high enough off the ground for my terriers to get under, other wise the local mouse population uses it like a mousey new-build estate!

I wasn't certain either but it wasn't anything a girdle and some butter couldn't sort.
Ratdine also works equally well at sorting them out :-)

I used a place called windows4sheds. I couldn't believe how cheap (in a relative sense of the word) they were and how good a quality they are too. www.windows4sheds.co.uk/products/georgian-doors/I bought 2 x doors rather than a double door. and the frame came from door deals. www.doordeals.co.uk/which is also good quality for a good price, especially I wasnt able to find any other frames the right width. although.... having primed the window I now see the error of my ways buying a pair of 15 pane doors.... I will dig out the house paint sprayer and try spraying them as 30 panes to paint both sides multiple coats is a right pain in the posterior....

It's polycarb.
The place I got the doors from sell packs pre cut.
If it's no good I'll reglaze it at some point.

Ratdine also works equally well at sorting them out :-) rolled up wire netting between the joists would work as well.

today was flat out in the sun again. working out the trim lines P7074774 by jono_misfit, on Flickr (which I worked out wrong and had to re-work out again.....) getting closer to the apex P7074775 by jono_misfit, on Flickr one more wall to go P7074776 by jono_misfit, on Flickr lots of sawing and hammering later P7084777 by jono_misfit, on Flickr P7084778 by jono_misfit, on Flickr its impressive how much extra shade it brings into the summer house just getting these small areas of panelling in. there should be a good mix of sun and shade in the room view towards the unkempt garden.. P7084779 by jono_misfit, on Flickr The beach hedge will be trimmed back a bit to open out the view. The nearest tree is dead as I transplanted it from the raised bed and there hasnt been any rain since, and watering hast saved it. Will need to buy a new one. good to see it with the walls up, but still a long way to go.

whenever I get these ideas of what i'm going to do on a project I should just stop and think. That'd be nice but no.... Today has been another case in point. I *could* have done what every other summer house seems to have, and just felt the roof. Its functional its work, its fairly neat. I thought, nah, it'd look better with those felt shingles instead..... yesterday was spent nailing felt edging round the place, to ensure I have a nice 250mm wide strip to prevent any leak around when I fit the shingles. P7154780 by jono_misfit, on Flickr The edge bits you see will disappear as there will be finishing wood screwed on and painted. Today I started fitting the shingles. Watch a couple of youtube videos, read some websites about it. all good. No worries i'll get it all sorted today.... no....... no freaking chance. No interm pics as I was full pelt all day trying to get it on. Shingles fitted to the pent roof section. P7154781 by jono_misfit, on Flickr P7154782 by jono_misfit, on Flickr it turns out they're a pig to fit. Well on this they are. there are only 4 strips fitted there that havent had to be cut... the only plus side is the remaining bit *should* be more srtaight forward and be only cut ether end, so about 18 cut strips. the pent section has about 38 cut sheets. It also took 7 tubes of bitumen mastic and need to get a load more. Still looks alright and hopefully will be water tight. Proof is on tonight as we're due some rain. P7154783 by jono_misfit, on Flickr

That's a lovely looking build. I've built (helped build... *made tea for the mates that built...) a 20ft x 20ft timber pent roof garage in my garden. I used normal shingle felt stuff just to get it done, but looking at yours there I think i'll use the strips of shingle tile when I redo it.
