1989 F150 4.9L (300ci) Single Cab, Manual, 2 Wheel Drive.
MOT until 20/10/19.
Bought in 2017 as a non runner (a runner but misfiring badly), work was carried out to get it running and then give it a new lease of life.
- New ECU (the cause of the problem)
- New Throttle position sensor
- New Idle Control Valve
- Head pulled, stripped, cleaned up, new stem seals fitted and reassembled
- Head gasket replaced as part of the above
- New push rods
- New thermostat and housing (original had cracked and been bodge repaired)
- Vacuum lines replaced and run correctly
En route to its MOT it became apparent that the front brakes were binding so the following were replaced and a fresh ticket was issued.
- Both Calipers
- Discs
- Pads
- Wheel bearings (precautionary measure after the excess heat from the discs).
I've been using the Truck as a daily, its been very reliable, gets a lot of looks and is fun to drive, but it's time for someone else to enjoy it!
Aside from the work listed above it has also had the following done in my ownership:
- Gearbox oil changed
- Gearbox seals resealed (common leak on Mazda gearboxed F150's)
- Leaky wheel cylinder replaced
- Oil recently changed
- New battery
- Square mirrors now fitted so things can be seen
- Metres of random sketchy wiring removed
Before my ownership, as part of the diagnosis/repair for the misfire the coil, dizzy cap, rotor arm, leads and plugs were replaced.
It isn't perfect, if you're after a luxury cruiser this isn't for you. It's definitely ratty looking with it's Matt Black paint and chunky tyres, but it just gives it that beater Truck cool look. There is a blow on the exhaust, but it's never bothered me enough to be a problem! The drivers window has stopped moving up or down without assistance (electric too!), however it does come with a replacement main gear (which I'll fit if I have time around my other project).
An honest vehicle good for daily use, being a parts wagon and lots of fun when it snows!
