Brilliant pics LP! Much of those photos define a world I remember so well, both child and adult. We cannot pretend that cars, vans and trucks were better than they are now but, without a doubt, we can look back at the myriad of designs speaking volumes about individuality in a way that platform sharing and badge engineering can never do now.

It all just looked better. Theres more character in these photos, more to interest us, more style, and theres more chance that most things in the photos were fully designed by an actual human brain with no computer controlled efficiency or H and S stuff to get in the way. I think it all helps to make the old scenes a little more easy on the eye.

Great pics , the long hot summer of 76 Lives very big in my memory, aged eight Back then I can still remember the burning sensation on my legs ifrom the tan vinyl seats in my dads fe Vauxhall victor And the Japanese car invasion, my dad cursed my school friends dads for buying Datsun 180b cars! Funny thing he is now 80 and drives a Lexus! As said life seemed so much more laid back then But unfortunately nothing stays the same does it!

Absolutely loving these pictures especially the one with the Grenadier guards in it as I was one many years ago but one thing I will say never call a bear skin a busby , we would get a sharp punch to the jaw if we were ever heard calling it that.😀 💂♂️

The newer the photo the more the foreign car content goes up,we moved in 1976 and I think dad's Volvo amazon was probably the only foreign car in our new street

This is awesome. I recognised quite a lot of the places before seeing the writing stating where they were. Funnily enough, the scenes look identical (appart from the cars)

So mad you posted this - I discovered TrainsAndStuff's photostream on Flickr who collects slides and prints from Auctions and Estate clearances and was going about setting up a thread. No need now so I'll add some here: A82 Great Western Road, Glasgow, Scotland 1962 by Glen F, on Flickr Grosvenor Road/Vauxhall Bridge Road, London 1960 by Glen F, on Flickr Whitehall, London 1980 (looking south from Trafalgar Square) by Glen F, on Flickr Post Office, Pearse Street, Sleveen, Kinsale, Co. Passed through Adare a few weeks ago, and the cottage is exactly the same. The Street of houses is the same, just 2018 cars. Creepy.

Woah, man... that just zapped me right back to my childhood. That is an image so deeply embedded in my memory and completely un-recalled for about 30 years.

The deco inside probably hasn't changed either.

this thread should be placed on a pedestal as a shining example of social history , some lovely old images. the more mundane the subject at the time the more interesting they are now. i'm sure i (possibly) made out a rolls silver shadow with a table on the roof and a (mk9?) jag with a caravan on the back?! a few i have shamelessly culled from the interweb showing days gone here in west cornwall. our local , long gone garage c late 70's early 80's porthleven again , 50's - 60's anyone for a 99? again late 70's/80's and the above , helston 50's -70's.
