Fantastic workhorse 940 2.3 HPT Estate.
I bought ‘Bullwinkle’ last August with 178000 miles on the clock. I immediately put it in to a local specialist and had a light freshen up performed to get him through the MoT. New exhaust system, new windscreen, front calipers cleaned up, shock absorber replaced, service etc. I have also fitted new front sidelight/indicator units to freshen up the front. I had the underside wax oiled to try to ensure it keeps going.
I ran the car through the winter and it has never let me down. If you know your Volvos you’ll know these are mechanically bulletproof, this car having the desirable 165bhp tune.
Car comes with original alloy wheels to which I fitted brand new Continental tyres in the correct size and rating. These have done about 3k miles. In addition I will include a set of winter wheels (steel) fitted with Continental WinterContact tyres which have done about 6k miles. All tyres were new last year. This car was unstoppable during the beast from the east, and the heated seats ensured total comfort at the same time.
Of course, this is a 23 year old car so there are some issues that I need to mention:
- Roof has lost laquer at the front in the middle, sunburn I guess.
- front wings need attention as arches have started to corrode
- door cards are suffering the usual wrinkles that blight these old Volvos
- air con not working - someone has removed the belt so I assume it is not fixable
Otherwise the car is great - it has helped with two house moves and transported me up and down from the Midlands to the south coast weekly without trouble. Always starts first turn of the key, pulls well with a generally smooth shifting auto box. It has now covered approx 187000 miles and should be good for double that with a little love!
Described by a user on here as a car suited to the zombie apocalypse - I guess I’m gambling on that not happening!
Price drop - offers around £650, MOT until 7th September.
