Dear all, can someone recommend a classic car insurer? I am trying to insure a 1998 rover 820 vitesse. Standard, value of about £1500. Limited mileage policy probably about 1000 miles. I just got my first quote from Lancaster, they wanted over £400. Considering i used them last time to insure my 827 and it was £150 ish, i thought i would look elsewhere.
Any recommendations?

Footman James, I've got a limited mileage (1,000) policy with them. The policy is actually with Aegeas.

I'm using Heritage Insurance, used to be Norton Insurance. I've not seen a need to change for some time.

I usually use Lancaster, I did have to beat the guy up over the phone with the initial quote on my mk2 20vt, managed to get it halved in the end... Then I didn't go with them out of principle.. To say that he was annoyed was an understatement. So my go too people when Lancaster fail me, is Peter Best.

I've used RH Classic for years now, always been happy with the service. They will even cover your daily too, which works for me.

Hagerty - www.hagertyinsurance.co.uk/ - I have tried the others but nothing comes close to this insurer for classics - they are also exceptional in the event of a claim - fair priced too - I cannot recommend them high enough

OK, thank you for all the replies. I went with a company called A-plan in Thatcham as recommended by SmokeEm in my project thread. Very helpful. Also insured my Nissan turbo track car for peanuts! Here is the company www.aplan.co.uk/personal/motor/specialist-motor-insurance/I spoke to a chap called Richard Goodman.

It was the mgzs v6 and I think I paid about £120-£130. That was with limited 5000 miles but it was my only car, ridiculous really how other insurance companies were quoting me £800-£1000 for a fiesta yet I could insure a 2.5 v6 for less then it cost to tax.

I wouldn’t use Lancaster Insurance if they paid me to take one of their policies

I have no other experience, but expected to have to jump through hoops with the Fug.
I tried Hagerty and was surprised how helpful and knowledgeable they were. The guy I spoke to didn’t know what a UVA fugitive was, but we chatted and he understood what it was, referred to it as a modern classic and was happy to quote. Price was good, so I’m with them.... didn’t bother phoning anyone else though so can’t give you a comparison

This question comes up time and time again and I still don't know who to go to for my insurance! might try Hagerty though as they seem to be getting some good comments
