Last week myself and two mates headed for Wolfsburg to visit the VW museum, Autostadt and take the VW factory tour. Day one was flying from Glasgow to Hannover via Amsterdam then use the very efficient railway system to get to Wolfsburg itself. The train station couldnt really drop you any closer to the factory. Day 2 we spent the day at the Autostadt complex but first we stopped here. This was the site of the Tullio Cianeti hall. Basically a place where they would sell the dream of the KDF Wagen or Strength through joy car and now has a marble split window memorial. Flights were booked for 6pm but when I checked my phone on the train the news came through that our flights had been cancelled due to thunder storms so we thought we would be seeing a lot of Hannover airport; Wolfsburg trip day 3 23 by Dave Campbell, on Flickr KLM put us up in a flash hotel and at 4am we were on our way to Munich before heading home to Glasgow. Great couple of days and if you are into VW's its well worth a visit. Hope you enjoyed the pics and remember to visit my flickr for more. Dave.

Went in 2015. As a VW diehard, it’s the absolute Mecca.

To the guys that have been talking about it for years, so had I.
I drove there in 2005 in my bay window and camped behind the stadium and had always thought about going back.
Managed to book flights, trains and hotel for around £350 for the 3 day trip (2 nights in the hotel).
When I got thinking about it its not really any more expensive than driving down to Vanfest used to cost.
If you are going, keep in mind there is only one English factory tour per day and it books up quickly so arrange this well ahead of time by contacting Autostadt.
Dave.

I'm another lifelong VW fan who has always dreamed of making this trip. It looks amazing. I can't decide whether I'd want to drive there in my Golf or fly like you did. I think the time and cost involved in driving means the flying option is more likely. I'm feeling inspired now to actually do it!

I don't mind at all. I picked flights to give us the afternoon on day 1 and the morning on day 3 so that we couls make the most of the trip so we didnt go for the cheapest option. Cost us £265 each for the return flights. The return train tickets were £25 (thats airport to Hannover then Hannover to Wolfsburg and then back for £25). The three of us shared a room at the Hotel Leonardo for 2 nights which kept the cost down and meant we could stay walking distance from the factory. Plus the room had Beetle pictures on the wall; Hope this helps, Dave.

Just booked a family break to Berlin in August...
So we are going to go to Wolfsburg for a day, I’m hoping we can fit in the Stiftung AutoMuseum and AutoStadt in a day. But interested if you’ve got any tips or advise

Just booked a family break to Berlin in August... So we are going to go to Wolfsburg for a day, I’m hoping we can fit in the Stiftung AutoMuseum and AutoStadt in a day. But interested if you’ve got any tips or advise John If you get to Wolfsburg early enough you will at least get a visit to both. If you are into old VWs then I would head for the old museum first and soak up the prototype and specials. Doing Autostart in one afternoon would be a push but concentrate on seeing the Zeithause part, the rest is the "educational" bit to make VW look good and showrooms for each brand. Dave. P.S. For lunch you need to have VW currywurst inside Autostadt. Go upstairs to the canteen above the car showroom part beside the towers.
