Aaaah the good ol' days. In the first iteration I used to have a fully tuned-up Mitsu 3000GT, that made 939hp. Nine hundred and thirty-nine horsepower! I thought they were overdoing it, and bear in mind I was 10. I learned ten years later that yeah it could actually happen!
I loved the Viper GTS-R in the second iteration too, but I almost never played the later games.

too few pixels used so far on everyones favourite car... Yeah it's amazing how low-res these seem now. At the time the replays seemed like reality. More Real ones: What a beast. (I love the pretense that somewhere in there there is a 'Grand Vitara' The MazdaSpeed Demio based on this real one: And here's a Demio A-Spec brochure [which has those spiffy rear-quarter window covers]

Loved this game, only a few of us a school were playing it as the rest were far to excited about fifa type stuff lol.
GT was my first introduction to the ae86, I bloody loved my fully tuned one! Think it's probably help fire my desire for random Japanese tat, just haven't bought one lol
When I got GT2 it was a twin disk, JDM gold disc copy. Was actually better than the EU spec one lol

In 1998 when it came out I was already 44! Didn't stop me getting every version! I wore out 2 copies of GT2 and am now on my 3rd! IMO 1 was good, 2 was the best, 3 & 4 were useless, the physics engine was just plain wrong, 5 was pretty good but hard work as you couldn't win the same car more than once, then keep selling them to make money! But at least you could practise the 'ring in anticipation of a visit! 6 wasn't as good I don't think cos they ALWAYS made you start from the back of the grid in that one! Ah the Escudo, put supersoft tarmac tyres on it and it could beat ANYTHING, even the endurance races! Even stopping for tyres every 5-8 laps you could still hammer the opposition! I had an R34 GTR in street trim (no aero) on GT2 that was over 1100BHP and almost completely undriveable, but my favourite car was the RWD Skyline "silhouette racer" which was MY weapon of choice for endurance races and so forth. On GT5 i have a Ginetta G4, fully upgraded and a massive 110 horse or thereabouts but still quick cos it's under 400kg. I love thrashing that round and round the Monaco GP circuit! I still have my launch edition PS2 from 2002, still in GWO and play GT2, Juiced and several of the NFS games. And Grid on the PS3 (which came with the console and has one of the nicest drift modes of any game) I'm now 64, but as Bob Monkhouse said, "growing old is compulsory, growing up is optional!"

That's the kind of 64 year old I aspire to be :-D I sill have a psOne (my original died remember that thing where the console would only work if you stood it one end?) still have a ps2 and 3. Got this weird thing when I bought a 2, the one went in its box, and the 2 is in the 3 box and so on. I also still have gran tourismo1 game in unopened packaging, because I bought two. that will be worth 8 quid on eBay oneday I also wish they would port gt1 to ps4 as a download from play station network, big bucks in nostalgic games, I'm sure they'd have a hit Aaaah the good ol' days. In the first iteration I used to have a fully tuned-up Mitsu 3000GT this be it ? i think that was the car which i got the record top speed on my version. 443km/h (which is about 275mph) i think there was also a glitch where you could put the escudo with max downforce to the rear, min to front, then it would backflip uncontrollably to infinity and get stupid high speed

I think it might have been GT2 or GT3 but I seem to recall trying to do top speed runs in the TVR Cerbera Speed 12 with a mate I agree with most of the sentiments that 1 and 2 were probably the best (especially the massive range of cars on 2) more recently I've moved over to Forza Skyline Silhouette was a fave for me on GT2 as well Also the HKS Drag S13 and R33!

I loved Gran Turismo, especially 1 and 2. Apparently these games actually helped bolster the grey import industry in this country, as everyone was suddenly introduced to a load of great cars they'd never even known existed. Must admit I had this theme stuck in my head when I was out in the MX5 the other day. Almost makes me wish I'd gone for a Eunos instead. The Gran Turismo series is also directly responsible for me learning of the existence of my two favourite racing cars of all time. GT1 showed me my second favourite, the Nismo GT-R LM: And its real-world counterpart: And from Gran Turismo 3 onwards, my absolute favourite racing car ever - the screaming neon banshee itself, the Mazda 787B. ... and I reckon a video would be appropriate for this one. Rotary bliss!

I have a GT4 story to relate...
Not long after it came out, I was working at Comet the electrical retailer, and a few of us had a GT4/Nurburgring challenge, using a bog-standard WRC Escort. Started off about ten of us, all trying to get the fastest possible time for one lap (not at work!)
After a while, it was down to two of us, and for a month or so it was intense! Trading tenths of a second (hello, Dale) but I stayed ahead for a week or so.
Then, one day I walk into the shop, and every TV is off. Suddenly, about 100 TVs start showing a GT4 Escort WRC hitting every single apex on the 'ring! I stood transfixed for exactly 8 minutes and 21.404 seconds as Dale beat my previous best by a second! I was gutted, but the way he'd shown me was amazing!

I remember well, getting to the end of GT2 and doing all the one model challenges, spending millions of credits doing the cars up with race spec eveything, just to win a single race! The very last being the AZ1 cos I had to wait ages for a used one to become available (the only way you could buy it) It actually turned out to be a barrel of laughs to drive and when playing subsequent times, I bought one early on! It was particularly good for the Kei car challenges!
My lads both have X-boxes and Forza but I have a pathological hatred of Microsoft products (mainly cos they're always packing up!) So i've so far resisted the temptation! I must be getting old though as i've not yet bought a PS4, i'll probably get one when PS5 comes out and they get suddenly cheaper! TBH, i'm waiting with bated breath for proper proportional steering!

Works OK with the memory cards in. Note to self, try the Escudo glitch and see if it works!
Nice to think I could be a role model for someone! Cheers Darren!

This game is also responsible for me, like many others I am sure, falling in love with the quirky little Mazda Demio.
Wasted far too many hours playing GT2 as a teenager, although apart from Grand Theft Auto I don't think I have played another driving game since!

I have lusted after an FTO for years purely because of GT...sadly the few I've come across have been utter dogs or basket cases. I can remember spending hours as a spotty teen at sleepovers playing this with mates. It was my first introduction to the ideas of downforce, gear ratios, turbos etc. Etc. We would spend hours tuning up cars like the Supra to race and shave valuable split seconds off our times...it was really something back in the day. I've kept my racing chair and Logitech steering wheel in the loft...I'm a bit too old for it now, but hoping that my son will be into whatever iteration exists one day soon enough...

As said by loads of you already....this game and it's sequels is single handedly responsible for my love of Japanese cars! I'd never seen JGTC cars before 1998, or a Mazda AZ1, or a Legacy Twinscroll.....the standout for me though was when playing in arcade mode to just muck about with a mate, the fastest computer-controlled car was always a blacked out Mitsubishi GTO - that thing was fast!!!

As others have said GT2 was my favourite. I restarted it about 6 or 7 times and would probably have still been playing it if the disk hadn't got a bit of damage and rendered it unreadable. I've still got the arcade disk somewhere though.

... you couldn't win the same car more than once, then keep selling them to make money! Steve You say that like it was a bad thing, it was one of the hardest "real life physics engine" lessons I wish I paid attention to. Never let go of a car you love. You never get it back.

I was going to post this, or the Z28 in the original GT anyway. My memory is a little different as I remember it being a useful handler but just didn't have the speed, especially in the properly tough Modified Championship. TBH I can't recall what it was like in GT2, but I remember it was indeed a super powerful but fairly useless beast in the original Forza. The 30th Anniversary version was the prize car for the second championship IIRC, so you didn't have to buy it as such. Who didn't get the 2.2 Prelude at the start?

Fond memories of 1 & 2, I also owned the others but they were never quite as good in my opinion. Yes the graphics were better but there was to much concentration on more moden and super cars in the later games. I enjoyed trawling the used car market and tuning the life out of 20 year old Starlets and Preludes in the first couple.
I stopped at a friends house one night and we each spent all night doing one of the stupidly long endurance races in career mode using a tv each instead of split screen. Mind numbing boring once we had lapped the cpu cars about ten times over but I even remember the car I used, a canary yellow ‘98 Lancer Evo, one of the only “new” cars I ever bought on the game.
