Hi all got another hour in after lunch so have lined the rear passenger panel and trial fitted it and also cleaned, lined and refitted the sliding door trim. Got a few bits to line tomorrow and then the new floor and vinyl can go down for good. Cheers - mike

Hi all had a couple of hours on the camper. The drivers side window area is now carpet lined. As i'm stuck in all day waiting for bits to be delivered I have decided to fit the mains inlet and split charge system this afternoon. Cheers - mike

Hi all
have had a steady morning on the camper.
Mainly doing wiring. The split charge system is now fitted and I have used an upgraded charging relay which will allow the van engine to charge the leisure battery but also the on-board charger will now charge the van battery once the leisure battery is fully charged.
Have also added the feed for the 240v socket to the mains fuse box.
As its started to rain I will be starting the build of the units in my workshop this afternoon.
Cheers - mike

Hi all had a few hours making parts for the units yesterday. The front panel for the kitchen is made and fitted with the doors plus the top for the battery / electrics box. As it was dry this morning I fitted the new ply floor and cut and fitted the new vinyl flooring. Its forecast rain for the rest of the day so I'm not sure what else will get done. I would like to get the floor edge trim cut and fitted plus make a start on the fridge housing. Cheers - mike

Hi all didn't get a lot done yesterday afternoon due to the rain. I managed to get the trim for the floor edges cut and have installed it this morning. Its still raining here but I am going to insulate the roof and try to make and fit the ceiling between showers. Cheers - mke

Hi Mike, do you do thing kind of thing for a living or used to?
my girlfriend is considering something larger to live in (she is kinda squatting in a caravan at the moment, also has a boat she has lived in) and has been looking at larger ambulances on the net, mostly as they have a lot of electrical stuff in already and are insulated, what were not sure of is would it be enough, or be a can of worms! not yet been to see one, may end up getting a large panel van and starting from scratch!

Hi there
yes, i do this for a living although i have been semi retired for the last 5 years.
I would no convert an ambulance, you would be better off staring with a decent sized panle van.
Cheers - mike

Hi all it finally stopped raining an hour ago so I cleaned the roof of the van and cut and fitted the insulation. Have also made a map of were my fixings need to go for the ceiling. If it stays dry I may get the ceiling fitted today but most probably tomorrow morning. Cheers - mike

Hi all had a steady day today. I have made and fitted the main ceiling panel and the led ceiling lights. They are wired so as to come on and go off with the courtesy lights so they come on when using the remote to unlock and lock the van. I won't be doing anything on the camper now until Monday afternoon. Cheers - mike

Your workmanship is very tidy and well thought out. These vehicles must give their new owners years of good service.
When you are looking for a suitable van to convert what makes you pick one over another? I assume like most work vans they tend to lead a hard life.
Is there a particular van you think makes the best base for conversion?
I have always had a touring caravan but now being on my own I think one of these might fit my lifestyle better. However I need to try one first me thinks.

Hi there
i go for one owner vehicles which are straight and clean.I won't buy builders vans etc or anything that looks abused. It does mean quite a bit of searching and travelling around though.
Personally for best all round usability I would go for a Peugeot Boxer / Fiat Ducato as they are a good size with reliable mechanicals but the choice of van is a very personal thing and needs to reflect the use you want out of the van.
Most my customers want a good all round vehicle to use as a car, camper and van.

Hi all have had a steady morning today. I have finished carpet lining on the passenger side door pillar which meant I could sit the seat/bed in place. Yesterday afternoon I finished making all the parts for the kitchen unit so have trial fitted them to make sure everything will fit ok and I am pleased to say it does. This afternoon should see the kitchen unit assembled and permanently fitted.Plus I should also have all the main parts of the wardrobe cupboard made. Cheers - mike

Hi all had another good day so far. The kitchen unit is now finished and the main panels of the wardrobe / rear cupboard are finished. Just one more panel and door to make and then I can start the worktops. I don't expect to get a lot done tomorrow as i'm going to be at the hospital a large part of the day. Cheers - mike

Hi all have had a steady day today. I have finessed the fit of the kitchen unit and made a few enhancements. I was not happy with the water container not being secure and also the wasted space below it so have picked up another container that's a better shape and cut out the base so that it slots neatly into place. I have also made the kitchen worktop, cut the hole for the hob and sink and laminated it with gloss black formica and fitted it with grey edging. It just needs a tiny bit of trimming and then its ready for fitting. Off away to Matlock this weekend so thats it until Monday. Cheers - mike

Hi all still plodding along with the camper. Have knocked off quite a few finishing off jobs. The drop out vent for the gas bottle has been fitted. The cables for the split charge system have been routed and secured with p clips. I have been running all the 240v systems today and they are all fine. The fridge and on-board charger are working well. The rear part of the wardrobe and internal partition are made and waiting to be fitted. I just need to make and fit the last two pieces of the ceiling before these can go in. Hopefully tomorrow should see her finished apart from curtains and rails and fitting of the table(just waiting for the mount). We are going over to Liverpool in her this weekend to see the terracotta army. Cheers - mike
