Anyone interested in a build thread of this? IMG_7192 by Simes205, on Flickr I've been thinking about buying another car for about 20 years. I had a Hornet, Frog, Sand scorcher, Ford Ranger and a Mardave Ministock in the mid -80's. All smashed to bits and allied to that didn't have the funds to keep buying 6x AA batteries for the radio gear. My brother had a clod Buster and a Manta ray, between us 30 years on we have a box of broken bits at my folks house collecting dust. Fast forward - a lot. I've been trying to justify a new car and now that finally my own children can ride bikes I think that this is now the perfect cover for me to get one and play about outside with them. It's also quite cold outside which is stopping me from lying on the floor and replacing the steel fuel lines on my 205! IMG_7202_edited-1 by Simes205, on Flickr The Hotshot was the car we all wanted but you could upgrade it further to the Supershot. This was essentially the same but with 4 shocks instead of 2, fully ball raced and a guard under the chassis. This one comes with an electronic speed controller. Count me in, had one back in the day.
I thought mine was safe in the loft (with all my other cars, radio gear, chargers etc.), at my parents house, that was until I went to find them a few years ago only to be told by dad that he had thrown them all out. Some one got very lucky that day !
Still gutted about to this day that he did that.
Looking forward to reliving it through this thread.

I did exactly the same. I used to be into them in a big way, and now my boys are the right age the old fleet is expanding rapidly! Would still love a Toyota Bruiser but just can't justify the cost. One thing I've realised is that electronics have came a looong way. Thank god they don't have those horrible mechanical speed controllers anymore. Have a look on Youtube for a guy called Matteo, he films some amazing Tamiya action videos and it makes me want all of them! Here's one of the Hotshot-

So gearboxes built - now the assembly of the wishbones. There are a lot of parts on this model, it's a fairly comprehensive build which I'm spending about an hour on most evenings. I got my DSLR out for these and the future snaps. IMG_7215_edited-1 by Simes205, on Flickr I'd forgotten how well designed these things are. IMG_7216_edited-1 by Simes205, on Flickr IMG_7217 by Simes205, on Flickr Here's the rear assembly now altogether.

Paint time. This always was my least favourite part. None of my old cars had a painted driver! But I thought I'd give it a go. IMG_7239 by Simes205, on Flickr IMG_7241 by Simes205, on Flickr Head shot - since been tidied up. IMG_7244 by Simes205, on Flickr Seat belts added - safety first. and whilst waiting for the paint to dry I started to assemble the wheels and tyres. 4U6A4399 by Simes205, on Flickr The Supershot came with Gold wheels - what's not to love about that! 4U6A4400 by Simes205, on Flickr Time to connect both ends to the chassis - which meant fitting the prop shaft. 4U6A4405 by Simes205, on Flickr

You’ve got more patience than me, that curse word would have been a none stop build until completion after a very late night and multiple bottles of beer! Well done, it’s coming on well, one thing I’d say is you probably want to loose a fair bit of pre-load on the shocks, too much and it’ll bounce around far too much, ideally you’ll want a slight bit of sag but sometimes it’s not too easy to achieve with the standard shocks and spacer clips.

Radio time. 4U6A4414 by Simes205, on Flickr So I've got new radio gear including an electronic speed controller. Aside from the servo this technology appears to have shrunk in size and is easy to get into the box it all goes into. Steering needs setting up well as once it's all in the box it's a pain to get to. (I've had it apart a lot - further into the build). The steering is curse word on these I've found out so I'll be modifying that in due course. 4U6A4419 by Simes205, on Flickr

The build is nearing the end but there are a few bits left to do. 4U6A4424 by Simes205, on Flickr Not all of these parts are used in this kit. 4U6A4427 by Simes205, on Flickr These are though - they form the roll cage with the mesh to go into the side window areas. 4U6A4428 by Simes205, on Flickr 4U6A4429 by Simes205, on Flickr Decals and roof plate added. 'Might actually invest in some decal scissors for the bodyshell. 4U6A4430 by Simes205, on Flickr

Underside guard which I don't think came on the Hotshot - now fitted. 4U6A4438 by Simes205, on Flickr 4U6A4440 by Simes205, on Flickr It mounts on a few points on the chassis including a hex shaped 'dowel' omn the front. I'd installed this incorrectly right back at the beginning of the build. I had to dis-asssemble the front suspension to get to the nut and bolt! 4U6A4441 by Simes205, on Flickr Bumper added. We're now up to date. Body shell left to go.

Sorry in delay - I finished this back in December and just hadn't updated the thread. I didn't document the cutting of the bodyshell - I ordered the 'special' tamiya scissors to do that! However I painted it. IMG_7430 by Simes205, on Flickr IMG_7431 by Simes205, on Flickr added the decals..... IMG_7433 by Simes205, on Flickr IMG_7435 by Simes205, on Flickr IMG_7438 by Simes205, on Flickr It now has been thrashed around and looks a bit more used. No plans to upgrade anything - I'll keep it standard. It's not the fastest car, nor does it steer that well, but it looks nice.
