1990 Volvo 740 GL Estate - Manual - 7 Seater - Bracknell - £750
I'm probably going to regret this but.... For sale is my 1990 Volvo 740 GL
This is the 2.0 L N/A Red block engine (B200F) with 5 speed manual gearbox
147,511 miles - barely run in, the red block will go on forever.
I've had it about three years - my wife bought it for me as a birthday gift from an old chap who'd owned it for over 20 years and looked after it well as their family car. I don't have any service history but look online at the MOT history and you can see how few advisories it's had.
Alas, I've just lost my job and decided to go back into education, so this old bus needs to go to pay some bills.
The Good Points
- Generally very good condition for its age - paintwork comes up quite nicely
- ~10 months MOT and very few advisories over the years (take a look online, reg number is H591 JGM)
- This is the GL model so comes complete with wonderful retro grey twill heated seats, and electric windows in the front.
- Factory Fit 7 seat option in the boot!
- The speedo and odo are both still working (a common fault on these)
- 4 good tyres
- It's a Volvo estate so you can fit anything in it
- Never been used for towing
The Not So Good Points
- The clutch has just started slipping. I don't doubt it will get you home, but it will need to be addressed pretty soon. I've been quoted £450, but somebody handy with the right tools could do it themselves for less (you can buy a clutch kit for £93 from eurocarpats.com with their current discount code).
- Slight surface rust patch emerging on the OSR wheel arch (see pic)
- Slight mis-fire and seems to be running a bit rich. I've replaced just about every sensor on the engine in my ownership, replaced the pugs, the inlet manifold hgasket, cleaned te thrpl but I'm probably missing something obvious.
- One of the bonnet catches doesn't latch the bonnet, but it still stays shut and opens just fine.
- A few patches of lacquer peel on the bonnet (blame the pigeons).
- No sounds, the head unit is knackered
- The headlining is sagging a little (common on these)
- The little plastic cover over the high-level brake light falls off if you slam the boot.
The car is located in Bracknell, Berkshire.
