I had an '87 1.4L from nearly new. Think they had 75bhp as standard, it was pretty nippy but the brakes were curse word.. I’m hoping that was to the wheels lol. Will give me more hope. Yeah I’ll be taking at look over everything so the brakes are on the list. I can’t promise it will be a quick project but one I’m definitely excited about. ...

Popped to my garage on the way home tonight to take the carpet out to assess any rot there is a tiny bit in the passenger footwell/floor pan which should be easy enough to cut out and patch and a larger section on the drivers side from some poor repairs in the past. Passenger side Drivers side Tiny bit of surface rust on the passenger rear Then there’s the bit on the drivers inner wing, still solid but wants some attention. Passenger side strut And finally the boot floor. It’s had so many patches! But it’s solid. Hopefully picking up a new floor for the future next week. Started assessing what’s needed for the engine. I’ve got a coolant reservoir already but it’s filthy so needs a good clean! Can’t wait to get really going in this thing. Need to get some coolant pipes from somewhere?? I have the rad and fan just needs connecting and filling up. I have a couple of standard air boxes and filters. So need to fit that. I’ve checked it has oil but it will get a full service. Battery I have just need to charge it up and then make a positive wire to the starter. Connect gear linkage to make sure I’m selecting gears so I can check it’s in neutral and try and start the thing lol. Then on to the body work

First bit of work on the old fiesta for a while today. I wanted to fit the exhaust and attempt to get it running. So first I had to get it up in the air in my garage I rent. Started fitting the manifold and the down pipe from an xr2 apparently but I’ll come on to that in a minute.... Down pipe on and all looking good So I got out the xr2 exhaust and offered it up! Hmm something not quite right It’s about 6-8 inches too short? Looking in Haynes and the CVH down pipe is different to the one I have with a silencer in it so maybe this is from an earlier xr2??? The one on my Escort is longer the the xr2 one without a silencer so I’m a little confused haha. I’m sure I’ll get it sorted. Maybe just get an exhaust place to weld a flexi in or find a different down pipe. Anyway after that little set back I thought I’d turn my attention to trying to start it! The car came to me with no battery or wiring to the starter so after I put a battery in and found a suitable starter wire I consulted Haynes for a wiring diagram and found the missing fuse link wire and connected it all up! I got heater panel lights and hazards, one front light and rear lights I was quite chuffed at this point so I thought I’d try and turn it over, I knew it wouldn’t catch as it has no fuel and the cooling system needs a little work, just a few jubilee clips and water...so I just wanted to check it wanted to fire up....but nothing not a sausage! Queue more head scratching until I remembered the PO mentioning something about a one of the dash switches being a home made immobiliser...eventually I found the wires and made a link to join them together Hey presto it wants to start I’ll have to try and get the cranking video up

Picked up a couple of bit the other day locally for a decent price. Got a parcel shelf which needs a little tidy both washer bottles and two new floor panels 😁 I also picked up some fuel hose and I’m hoping to get a bit of time with it this weekend, you never know might get it fired up......
