How to find gearbox code?

I’ve been offered a Lupo for scrap money that needs a gearbox but don’t know how to find the code.
Is there something online where I can search using the reg??

it's on a sticker in the boot. Or give your VW parts department a call and ask.

It’s the FFR part.
They’re a curse word gearbox tbh, very common for them to be broken. They usually get stuck in 2nd or 4th when something internal breaks. They’re the cable clutch rod change one that fits to the 1.4 16v.

Yeah this one is stuck in first!
So a 1.4 16v gearbox will fit?
It just this code box I can fit?

Check the selector mech and adjustment 1st. The code on the actual gearbox is on the flat area by the inspection plug on top of bellhousing. It's usually a pain in the ass to read on the car though (a camera with macro will help).

Find an 085 cable change box with same or very similar ratios, it doesnt have to be FFR. 1.0 boxes are no good on a 1.4 as you will feel like is a gear short.

Update; It’s now out of first gear?
Surely a knackered box after being stuck in first would not come out of gear???

Think they might be 02T box at that year not 085 but not sure on that. Ask them for the gearbox code and mention where to find it (boot floor sticker is usually good enough) then look it up for ratios and fitment. Ibiza have bigger wheels and tyres than lupo so likely the ratios are shorter anyway.

disconnect the cables and see what happens manually on the selector gubbins, might be something internal, if the bearings and gears are good probably worth pulling it apart and finding what the score is and fixing it for a few quid. They have weak bearing on output shaft nose that destroys the gearbox if left to fester too long, can be fixed real cheap if caught early enough.
