I find metal putty good for repairing curb marks on alloy wheels, the stuff that comes in a tube that you squeeze together to activate. There isn’t actually kerb damaged. It more just corrosion has eaten away at bitsof the metal. I’ll have a look for some metal putty though. great progress... I was going to say re the wheels; clean, clean, clean, then sand and fill. I painted the wife's wheels on her passat a couple of years ago and they came out quite nice. 2 tone. I would recommend using several coats of a good quality clearcoat over top of the color..... JP Cheers. Was thinking it would need 3-4 coats of clear to help protect the finish. just using curb damage as an example, but its strong stuff. My father in law works in agriculture and one of the machine holed the engine block, it was patched up with metal putty believe it or not and was still running a few years after! If you laquer the wheels, I recommend using a single use activation can of 2k laquer, as it is a lot more durable than the standard laquer that you get in a rattle can. Make sure you wear and mask and well ventilated area to spray in.

Painted the bits at the front and back . Not perfect by a long way but when the wheels back on should look tidy. Then painted, strut tops, servo, bonnet latch, radiator cap and brushed a little over the injection pipes when there wasn’t much paint left on the brush. Just brightened them up a bit. I drained 10 litres of yellow coloured fuel, and oust some fresh in, brand new battery and jumper leads onto another battery to give it some good power. Managed to get it to splutter a bit but not much else. Engine has spark, so I might rig the fuel pump direct off a battery and see if it helps,

I made a jumper and put a switch in it to run the fuel pump,
Tried it. Managed some splutters again but not much else.
Found a spark plug socket so wiped them Out, they were covered in fuel and oil. Cleaned them up and got a bit more than just a splutter but still wouldn’t run.
Took them out again and cleaned them again. And left them Out so fuel in the pistons could evaporate a bit.
Then tried again.
Sparks are flying out the alternator do that’s probably had it. And it overheated so possible thermostat is jammed but the electric fan works.
Oil pressure was good when revved. Dropped on idle but the oil Is probably pretty horrible now.
But least I know it’s not a lost cause.

Snapped, so I weld a nut on and then it snapped flush, will have to get a decent drill bit a drill it out. Cracked the thermostat housing too. Black wire snapped, maybe why the big red cable was added, and could be the cause of all the sparks, might just get it reconditioned anyway. Cam belt on though and power washed all the oil and dirt off. Useful having 10 litres of gone off petrol, plenty of de greaser for a bit.

Looks like it has had a new water pump at some stage.
It's cleaner than the rest of the engine.

sounds sweet on the video !
there does seem to be allot of extra wires, "gonna run this new bit because its easier than trying to find the problem" kind of wires. makes it very confusing for you

Progress is progress none the less! Well done! Sanded the sills and re stone chipped them and then clear lacquer, surprisingly good Spent some time touching up paint chips etc, done under the bonnet too as there was loads of spots, not perfect but looks tidier Took the rear lights out and will re paint the rear panel as there’s some surface rust. Painted the engine parts up Got all weekend to mess with it as the mrs is away until Sunday evening

Decided to keep the wheels black even though I don’t usually like black wheels, and that’s what it had when new Did the edge in ford moon dust silver Then masked the silver did the centre in ford panther black and clear coated the whole thing. Painted the centre cap Matt black Put a vinyl stripe down the side where the bump strips were Decided the back panel had too many marks and some dents so did my best rattle can respray on it This car originally according to the paint sticker wasn’t clear coated, so I’m hoping a good polish on the back will give it some shine. Replaced the alternator etc that I took off. Repaired the broken 12v supply to the alternator, no more sparks and a good reading on the gauge. Only issue now is that the key doesn’t turn the engine off. It carries on running. So I have to disconnect the fuel pump. There currently isn’t a thermostat in it as eurocarparts as usual gave me the wrong part. But there is no movement of water, so I think the water pump has had it.

I've had the engine running on issue when using a relay to power the ignition, the voltage through the ign warning light is enough to hold the relay in, solution is a diode on the ignition fed side of the warning light.

Before That’s basically this side done. Need to polish the rear panel, and re fit the lights and new decals, I’ve re painted the passenger side sill and put the vinyl stripe down the side. Need to paint the suspension and do the other three wheels. Replace the waterpump and thermostat, then the rear drums need new backing plates, service the engine and stick some new wiper blades on, find an issue with the indicators. Then I’ll look at getting it sent for an MOT

Looks like it is turning into more and more of a good buy as time goes on and you get more done! I wish I was so lucky with a blind buy Shame about that wiring though, but it looks like you’re getting through it! Do you plan to replace the dash to get rid of the screw holes? Or will you just tidy them up and leave it as is (a lot of work I guess for a few small holes)

It’s starting to look like a good buy the more I do stuff. Put a 924 sticker on the back and polish the rear panel as best I could Also painted the rear drum and front suspension on the passenger side. Just leaves the rear brake backing plate to replace. And then fix the indicators, I’ve no idea how to sound the horn so don’t know if that works. Then engine service Then I’ll send it for an MOT Then see what happens.

Finished the last two wheels and the spare wheel so Sorted out the boot, the sound proofing was falling apart so just took it out. The drains for the rear tailgate were blocked so all mud and stuff was getting into the edges of the boot, no rust just muddy so washed it all out. It also moved under its own power for possibly the first time in nearly 10 years. Only to the other side of the drive Clutch was stuck. Luckily broke loose.
