Wau, that is old Lada. Wasn't 73 first year they made them? Are you going to restore it to original glory or build it with 1700cc big block? I've had 2or 3 square lamps and one round lamp, only miss the round one. Hi samulis 1970 was the first year of production...Having looked at the id plate on the body Ive discovered mine is actually a 1972 not a 73. Oops must amend my thread title accordingly Ill be keeping the motor standard as Id like to keep costs down and 1200cc is double the capacity of my daily driver (citroen dyane 602cc) and more than enough for an old boy like me

Update time ! I hope you all had a good weekend mine was spent relaxing with the family Consequently I was well rested revitalised and itching to get back into the workshop on monday The first order of business was to have a serious tidy up and reorganisation of the aforementioned space....In the back of my mind was the thought that a couple of years ago on a trip to Budapest I had purchased a set of rear brake shoes for my other Lada (a 2104 estate ) I was going to fit them to that car but never got round to it! So somewhere in my abysmally untidy garage there must be a set of new rear shoes! With that knowledge as motivation I set about the tidying with gusto and oh boy am I glad I did! Look what I found! ....not only a new set of shoes but cylinders springs and associated gubbins as well Just as well really as after an hour of struggling to remove the drivers side hub (which you may recall took over an hour to free in Sanyis garden!) I was met with this sight... that’s what happens when the previous owner parks his car for 10 years with no back wheels on That unholy mess soon became this... The whole process was repeated on the other side...and jobs a goodun

Now obviously I wasnt about to attempt bleeding the brakes until a full assessment of the rest of the system was carried out.. front brakes look ok but calipers will be rebuilt....pipes from the brake fluid and clutch reservoirs are weeping like a 4year old being dragged away from his recently dropped ice cream cone on a hot summers day in Blackpool These and indeed all flexi pipes and master cylinder are dirt cheap new so will be replaced as a matter of course! As will both rear drums as to be honest they took quite a battering when being freed! In the meantime the car is now rolling freely and hand brake is working which will allow me to move the old rust bucket in and out of the workshop as required! Oh and I now have a relatively tidy workspace Id say that was an afternoon well spent Oh yes before I forget...look at the state of the old rear wheel cylinder... Totally seized! Night all...Ant.

I think a bit of both. Many cars from there have found homes via oldschool members though including my third imp. There was and still is some gold there.

All good stuff....thanks to all for posting Anyway on with the thread....ive been busy There will hopefully be a major update to follow but in the meantime..... I know I know I Know....yes the spit and polish has been implemented All that “lovely” patina or filth as I call it has gone for ever Oh well we all have our own opinions on the very thorny issue of “patina” Heres someone elses idea Pretty cool looking I think....but not on my car Major update is incoming..including shots of very very grotty floors shiny bits and my plans for the future of this particular zsiguli

So I must once again apologise for the lack of updates,but as well as having my brother in law over for a long overdue visit There has been what I can only describe as a “situation” Allow me to explain...whilst I was assessing and compiling a list of parts required for the initial stage of the refurbishment it occurred to me that not once during my brief ownership of this vehicle had I looked inside the glovebox Hmmm what do I actually know about Sanyi (the previous owner) well not much really! Could it be that far from being just an unassuming tractor enthusiast,market trader,neighbour and jack of all trades..he is actually a retired getaway driver and the reason this Lada is so tired and has no numberplates is because it was last used in a Diamond heist Anything is possible I reasoned as I tentatively reached towards the aforementioned receptacle of handwear! Blimey is that the time Stay tuned as I reveal the contents of “the glovebox” Night all...Ant.
