Was dashboard flocking a thing in the 1980s?

Hi all

I've decided to make my acty dashboard black and currently weighing up flocking or painting it.

I'm trying to stick to period modifications though so think flocking might look too modern, or were rally / motorsport dashboards flocked as early as the 1980s?

Definitely YES!

I remember being to Essen Motorshow every year as a youth in the 80s.

There was this company with a fiat 126 front end in metal flake paint applied with a flocking gun, you could also apply textile flocking material with that system.

Probably a thing in the 70's - or was it just covering it in Tiger stripe cloth?

That's cool if it was earlier too - i knew it was a decorative feature in 60s/70s but just didn't know when it came into use for cars.
