I'm wanting to check these motors. I have a length of original wire with the plug but when I put it to a 12v battery all I get is sparks and smoke from the wire ends. I only get that from the two black wires, the green one does nothing. I don't know whether this means the motors are seized or I'm not testing them properly   |

I'm going to guess that the black wire is earth and the green wire is live, so you should connect them to the battery that way. Both the black wires go into the same pin by the look of it (it's difficult to tell from the photo), which usually means that the second one daisy-chains from the first motor to the second one, to save running a separate earth. If they are both on the same pin, that explains the sparks if you connect one black to each battery post - you're just shorting the battery.
