Hello kind people, need a bit of advise on size for a harness bar to go across the tub of the Land Rover when we fit the 1/2 cage bikini top thing we have just bought. The outer two seats can use a inertia reel happily but the centre seat has nothing in place.
Thought is to add a simple harness bar across the rear mount of the 1/2 cage to mount the harness top straps. We don't have easy access to a welder but do have a pillar drill so I thought that if we went oversize on the bar we could simply drill holes and use suitable 7/16 UNF bolts to hold thing in place as well as the rear of the cage. Angles for anybody less than 6 foot 2 look OK.
Was looking at a 50 x 25 x 3mm section. Would this be strong enough to a) take the force in a bump and b) get away with not having crush sleeves etc. in place if suitable large washers used. Will a single 7/16UNF bolt either end be ok with suitable spreader plates (combined with foot of 1/2 cage). Will try and add photos but not having much luck at the moment.
Thanks in advance for your advise.
James
