Exhaust sleeves - what's the deal?

I have 60mm pipe so I ordered a sleeve measuring 60.5 X 125mm

When it arrives the internal diameter is more like 56mm and the 60.5 seems to refer to the external diameter including the thickness of the metal and the clamps

The seller reckons it could be a manufacturing error but I'm not sure

I'm sending it back but what do I order?

Surely it should be simple?

Usually stuff like that is ordered in sections of an inch, just converted to mm. 63.5 is a relatively common size, as is 50.8, 38 and so on.
Is your pipe 60mm OD or ID?
Maybe just order 65mm jackets?

Yeh probably ordering a bigger size is what i'll do. Just seems a bit odd

Hi, To be technical there is a difference between pipe and tube, broadly speaking pipe is measured internally and tube is external. Exhaust is always classified externally and so are the clamps for it.

60.5 is a size that exhaust tube is commonly manufactured in, more likely to be that than 60.0.

Colnerov is bang on, exhausts are made from tube, not pipe.

Pipe is a hole with something around it of whatever wall thickness is required.
Tube is a bar with a hole in to make it tubular, the wall thickness reduces the hole.

You could buy a piece of 63.5 x 1.5 which is another standard size, that would sleeve yours reasonably well.
