Cheap way of transporting a car from York to Kent

Sure I read somewhere about someone buying a car that needed transporting. Bought the car, phoned AA and had it recovered to a local (to them) garage from outside the sellers house.

Not sure if it’s true or not, have a vague recollection of something along those lines.

I'd rather have it collected and delivered even though it drives and has a long mot as due to work I only have the weekends ☹️

Trains run at weekends, I have done Saturday trains and have had very helpful ticket office staff find me tickets that were cheaper than advertised.
That is going to be way cheaper than any other method.
Are you saying that you cannot spare a single Saturday or Sunday to go and get the car you really want?

I'm fairly certain that when I took out breakdown cover for a new purchase,, long ago I was told that it would not start for 24 hrs.
I'm not doubting that you cannot do that method but I would be surprised that our breakdown organisations would not have some sort of condition in place which would prevent them from going to have to pick up something 'on the cheap' maybe?

Insure it a few days before you collect it ? I’m sure there’s ways round it as you say

Depends what you call cheap. As already mentioned, nothing is gonna be as cheap as you fetching it, but if you can’t be arsed to spare one day at a weekend then you will end up paying a fair old price i’d say. I had a recovery guy pick me up a none runner from Milton Keynes then back to me (east mids) so a round trip of about 140 miles & I’d guess 3 to 4 hrs of his time & he charged me £100 which I thought was for nowt.

york to kent? thats a local trip. i know a guy that bought a van from top end of scotland...from west cornwall! flew up drove back.

I was thinking about buying a car in Weston-Super-Mare the other week. That's an 8-hour round trip. All I was concerned about was whether the car was the spec I wanted or not. Asked my mate if he was up for a road trip (answer: "Yes") and was all set to go. The only thing that stopped me was the car didn't have what I wanted and I would always be thinking it wasn't the one I was really after.

Friends with wheels are the best way to pick up a car. It's how I have always done it.

Probably the way I'm gonna go my mates up for a road trip so will do that

I did a 1000 mile + 2 ferry round trip to deliver and buy a car a few years ago. It probably wasn't wise to do, but it was a great experience and had a great weekend.

Just pick it up yourself, make it something memorable. Great start with a new car. I bought an SD1 that time and it worked perfect the whole way back, looking back at it, it was about the only time it worked at all, but it was a great adventure.

For me, the challenge has been trying to get there by public transport for less that the fuel cost coming back...

Everyone is assuming it's a runner lol.
Try Shipley, if someone can grab it on a return run will save you a bit.
With recovery cheapest isn't always best.

Used Shiply to get a car from Liverpool to kent - as long as you don't need the car within x amount of days it worked for me.

Think it cost about 200 quid to get here.
