I will watch every second of every episode they film - Why? Because I am a petrol head and I have respect for anyone else that loves engines too - I don't care if I didn't like him as an actor in Friends, his passion for cars shone through. Chris Evans is universally slated but I love him, both as a person and as a presenter. There are VERY few car related programmes that i don't watch because I love them all! More Top Gear please, more 5th Gear etc etc. How dare you come on here with such a reasonable and logical outlook. I just don't get why people get so opinionated over what is purely someone doing their best at a job they have been given. Whether Rory is engaging or Chris Harris is interesting is irrelavant - They are both doing their best to entertain as many people as they can. If you don't like them - don't watch. Seems simple to me. I watched the series of Lazy Boy Garage because I like Jonny - The commentry did my nut in but I had to see past that - It's not her fault they give her the job is it! My belief is that people take the world of TV too seriously. It's purely entertainment for the masses IMHO.
Just my thoughts and I appreciate it that others on here will not share my view - and I'm fine with that.

I just don't get why people get so opinionated over [ TV ] Playing The Devil's Avocado for a moment though... I don't get why people get so worked up about the idea of people having an entertaining chat about TV and sharing their opinions about the merits and shortcomings of any given show/format/presenter/genre. It has always been this way. It's ingrained in culture throughout the era of TV. Before TVOD and live streaming you'd watch the scheduled shows at their allotted time on the channel, and then next day you'd go into work and discuss it with your colleagues, or friends in the pub. It's the amniotic fluid of TV-era society. I don't understand where the harm lies in us discussing it for some of you contributing to this thread to state your disapproval of the topics and themes being discussed. If you don't like them - don't watch. But that very same line of argument would apply here, to this thread... If you don't enjoy the discussion don't read it Your rule applies to you more than to us because it's your rule, not our rule. It seems like the thin end of an increasingly unpleasant wedge to argue the case that people ought not to be talking about something. That it's somehow wrong, or counter-productive. It assumes there is productive intent in the first place. There's none. It's just chatter. Chatter is free.

Whilst I whole heartedly agree with your points - chatter about a TV show is not what this site is about - there are no doubt a gaziliion forums out there to moan about TV presenters. This place isn't one of them hence why it is so popular.
I'm all for people having a view on anything, the more the better - in the right place.

Okay, so it sounds like we might need some rules about which aspect of car culture are permitted here, and which aren't. Car shows are presumably out of scope then. As long as we know we can all abide by the rules you're setting. It seems to me that would be a hotwire/moderator decision but I respect your personal decision to join a group discussion in order to condemn it and take the initiative to try and close it down for the greater good.

reid was only ever there to make up numbers...and was not missed in the latter episodes when it was mostly just harris and leplonk who went off on the interesting jolly trips!
if he was purple or green he would still have been just as annoying , its just the fact he is black that encourages certain people get their lady bumps in a twist and start throwing the loony liberal racism card into the discussion!

I never thought I'd live to say this... and I feel dirty for doing so... but I agree with @quatermass HoTWire and rmad are the only people on here who can tell me what I can and can't discuss on here and that's because it's them what makes it and runs it. In all other regards, my opinion is as valid and worthy of airing as any other person on here. As those articulate titans of punk Conflict said, silence is not a reaction. Art... which television arguably is... exists purely to provoke a response. We are responding to it, and if you don't like it, go onto a different thread and respond to that. There are many to choose from

GUYS - I am not telling anyone anything. I do not set the rules, I just try to abide by them where possible.
I am no keyboard warrior - I respect all your views and if you don't respect mine that is fine. All I was trying to say is that slagging off a car show before it's even aired might be a little premature that's all.
ps - Tim - I did not intend to condemn anything or anyone and I apologise if it came across that way. I was just airing my own views, nothing more.

I've been here long enough to understand and respect tbe RR philosophy of "no negativity" and if a mod dropped in and decided to lock this thread down I would understand and respect the decision. So I'm not trying to make a hard argument that you are wrong. Words on a screen can come across as more confrontational than is intended and I dare say if we were having this discussion face to face it would feel very different. If you are a lot bigger than me real life I'd be wholeheartedly agreeing with whatever you had to say I suppose my only point here is that if anyone feels the thread is veering away from RRs guidelines it's probably better to discretely ask the mods to review it. Purely because adding to the discussion never seems like the best course of action to me. It actually becomes the trigger point for arguments and then a thread is guaranteed to fly off the rails. Theres no hard feelings from my end, for what it's worth. You could well be right in what you are saying.

its just the fact he is black that encourages certain people get their lady bumps in a twist and start throwing the loony liberal racism card into the discussion! No, it's the fact that certain people needlessly comment on his race when it's entirely irrelevant that makes less awful people call out the racism. And objecting to racism isn't 'loony liberal' behaviour, it's just common decency.

wow.... that escalated. as its "my" thread i would just like to remind everyone that i just wondered (based on the trailers and new line up) how the new series would be received. clearly tg is still capable of promoting very diverse opinions....and that is without the master of all opinions , clarkson , being anywhere near!!

That’s not ‘speaking the truth’. That’s extremely thinly-veiled racism. it wasnt in the slightest bit racist, it was a very thickly obvious dig at the bbc. please don't tell me what i am thinking or what my words mean, thats my job. "even if BBC director-general Lord Hall has recruited Top Gear’s new presenters entirely on merit, he has still managed to tick all the boxes on the BBC’s diversity checklist with clinical precision. The result is that Lord Hall could now go to the Government and offer even Top Gear – until recently, a joyful bastion of political incorrectness – in squeaky-clean support of renewing the BBC’s royal charter next year."

the last series of top gear I watched the first couple of programmes but lost interest before they got the end, I don't think its the presenters but most likely the format
also, with GT, after faffing around to download it [don't have amazon] I watched the first three of the last series, and afterwards wondered why I bothered, I didnt bother after that.
when the new TG comes on, I will give it a go, nothing lost is there.
I am finding that repeats of the C/M/H top gear on dave are painful to watch, they are so dated now, and over the years clarkson has just become more irritating.
I am liking watching "Fast and Loud" [gas monkey garage], Sin City Motors [welderup], and Fantomworks, although USA cars I like the detail level in them
Wheeler Dealers last ed and mike series was becoming irritating to watch, like ed didnt want to be there, however I did really enjoy the Trading Up offshoot that mike did
so anyway, back on topic, I will give the new TG a chance

"Art... which television arguably is... exists purely to provoke a response."
I wish I could believe that.
But it seems to me the viewer is not the customer, the advertiser is. The programs are just there as bait to make us sit through the ads. And since they are designed to be the only positive thing in the whole machine, and aimed at us, I don't see why we wouldn't be allowed to have an opinion about them...
