Enjoyed that no end. Even having to mentally translate Northern into English became natural soon enough and I thought the dynamic between the presenters worked very well. Did I ever mention that Top Gear is one of the most beautifully filmed things on television.
I contrast, I stumbled across Discovery Channel trying to sell Britain on MotorTrend last night and fell asleep watching that Shootout programme. Two charisma-bypassed bores driving cars around and telling you facts and figures. Just shows how amazing a feat making Top Gear fun actually was all those years ago, because even as a dyed-in-the-wool petrolhead, I still want to be entertained. Roadkill is still dull as ditchwater too, btw. I thought that years ago when everyone raved about it on YouTube, but seeing it on "proper" telly just again drove home that two mates with gopros, no matter how enthusiastic, doesn't rival decently scripted and produced television

Don't take my word for it It possibly works fine on YouTube where you expect lo-fi production values and tolerate people just being Joe Bloke cocking around with his mates. As an allegedly professional television programme, it just made me angry. I might watch two lads cutting the wheelarches out of their truck so they can fit 30" tyres and then driving up and down a sand dune if I could fastforward through most of the thirty-minute programme this apparently warranted. On TV, in real-time it just stole my life away and I feel robbed

It's a matter of levels of competence and proficiency that determine the reaction to Roadkill I think. I'm a lightweight dabbler in this world, so for me RoadKill shows me that there's the opportunity to try things and not get too serious about it. For anyone whose really seriously into working on cars then all it's ever going to be is two blokes buying obvious junkers and driving them ten miles before the radiator/propshaft/headgaskets fail.
But it's good fun if you are down where I am, looking up.
But I agree it was a much more comfortable fit on Youtube than on a proper tellybox. It's a bit like sitting on your own sofa and finding a deformed Mars Bar that was lost between the cushions a year earlier. You're in your underpants, the curtains are drawn, its your sofa and the Mars Bar is still wrapped up so you think "yeah, why not, no harm in it" and enjoy the Mars Bar.
VERSUS
You're at the cinema, watching a blockbuster movie premier in VIP seats, wearing a Gieves & Hawkes bespoke suit with Italian handstitched shoes. You're with a hot date and it's all going really well. You happen to detect there's a mars bar... somewhat deformed, but still in its wrapper, stuffed down the back of your seat....

Thought the new Top Gear was ok but had to fast forward through the Mclaren/Ferrari section (don't really have an interest in big money Supercars) don't get why they put Roadkill on the TV as it just dosent work, i think theres only really enough content for Roadkill as a 20min Youtube show- Even David Frieburger himself said this in one of the later Roadkill episodes

It was something to do with YouTube's policy change (which I don't understand at all so don't ask me) which meant it was no longer viable for shows like that to be developed for the YoTube platform. They could have carried on. It wasn't like they were kicked off, but the whole thing was adjusted so that they were no longer in scope for YouTube's ambitions, and something something revenue from views eliminated something something YouTube wanted to evolve to become a respectable channel etc etc.

For those cheering the 'ditching' of the guest slot - they haven't - as Paddy mentioned at the end there are indeed talky bits with a guest and probably a 'lame lap in a lame car' next week. So not really a a format tweak - they just cut and shut a 'special' format with a bit of boring supercar filler for those bankers that can afford to have such things sitting in hermetically sealed garages never being used.

It wasn't as terrible as I expected, same old top gear format. Scripted bits are now very easy to spot thanks to Freddie.
He genuinely seemed angry when shunted though.
Didn't think the banter was that harsh to be honest, it was less harsh than I am with friends/colleagues and vice versa. Must be a northern thing.
I expect they will be replacing people for next season again though.

I thoroughly enjoyed it. The genuine non-scripted banter was refreshing and the presenters' enthusiasm and passion for cars was just as it should be. Harris is an awesome driver and what he has to say holds a lot of weight. It was cool hearing Paddy talking about throwing twin Webers on his Escort, too. The studio chat was a little stiff but clearly only down to it being the first ever one. They'll loosen into it. I laughed out loud a good few times and enjoyed every minute. Can't wait for the next one!

I feel like they could get a rather good new format if they brought in some more YouTubers. The good ones already have thr passion for car's and a great on screen presence.
2 that spring to mind are Seen Through Glass and Monkey London, random I know but those are the only UK tubers I watch lol
