I've owned a few rare cars. They include: Porsche 944 Turbo 250 : I think these are are sub-300 Triumph Dolomite Sprint : Less than 300. Escort RS Turbo Series 1: Less than 150 ; how many of those are non-ringers is another question, like the Sprint. However, this car was by far the rarest. A 1976 Toyota Carina Coupe TA18: I've not seen another in the UK, but I do know that at least 3 others are present in the UK. I've seen them with different rears, but not like this. Out of what I own now, the Mondeo is probably ironically the rarest car in my collection. Ford barely made over 1000 of them in a then diesel obsessed car market. When I last checked, there were sub-1000 Mondeo 2.5Ts left, and not mant of those were Titaniums. It's a shame as it's a great car.

Mazda 626 Coupé GC - two-tone metallic blue over black. A lot of motor factors didn't have stuff for it, one even told me it didn't exist! I pointed at it out of the window and said 'What's that then?!'. I ended up having to get stuff from Tunbridge Wells Mazda who had sold it originally. I sold it to my Mum, but she scrapped it when the fuel pump packed up, and terminal tinworm got into the chassis. It's this body style:

Probably both of my cars now. Apparently there are only 8 popular/base model Mk3's on the road (86 onwards is mk4 ) And 11 2.0 Ghia Capris... not sure how accurate this site is.

My 91 AMG 5.6 SEL was one of 51 leftover W126 chassis cars made by AMG that year. Thoughts are twelve of the 5.6 SEL being made. Very cool car!
One of My E39 tourings was a individual color, so; manual, sport, individual, touring was about it for rarity in that sphere.
Edit: The 944 cab that I had was triple blue which I think was 1 of 250 row cars

One of three Chrysler Horizons left in the world! In the US there are a LOT of Plymouth Horizons left. Yours looks better than all of them though!

many years ago i had a few charade GTti's.
then an odd looking one popped up for sale in SW London with a fried head gasket so, obviously, it had to be bought and limped home to the leafy shires.
on examination it turned out to be a GTXx - a sort of luxury JDM only version of the GTti. Declared new at first reg said the logbook and a bit of digging (internet was small in those days) uncovered that the then MD of Daihatsu UK had it shipped over for his wife and registered it through the network as a new vehicle.
we worked out that it was (at the time and probably still would be) the only UK market GTXx
had loads of others which are getting scarce now and, had i kept them, would have been a nice supplementary pension pot - lancias, alfas, RS fords, lotus fords, cosworths etc.

Awesome thread! The rarest car my dad owned must have been the oldest Austin Maxi he had. It was a 1969 model, but it was registered months before the release and had an extreemly low chassis number. it was so early it was actualy a prototype bodyshell, and was intended to look like this Whilst the outer front wings and front panel were all normal 1969 issue Austin Maxi, the front edge of the inner wings were shorter, as per the above car, and had little extension plates on them to bring them level with the front panel. It was also built like a tank. The rarest car ive owned was probably my very early HL where all later cars had black vinyl dash, black side strip infill, this had brown everywhere. Out of the many MANY maxis ive seen, ive never seen another in this spec, and neither had my dad, and he'd know. Either that or my Cube, even though its by far the newest car ive ever owned. Ive been flashed by some of the earlier ones that were imported in large numbers, but ive yet to see one of these.

I won a 1976 Saab 99 combi coupe on ebay for a good price in 2002, probably due to it being bic biro orange and every panel a different shade! Not seen another for years.

Probably lass than 20 Commer Imp vans left . this one was converted by Restall in Birmingham into an estate sometime before 1974 , a tax dodge at the time as vans didnt have purchase tax so were much cheaper , i think you had to wait a year or two before converting it though . I believe there are three Commer Imp Restall estates , i think this is the only one currently on the road and is the only one with the full interior trim . This ones a 66 , the following year Rootes bought out their own Imp estate - the Hillman Husky effectively killing a lot of conversions

I recently sold this. A Lotus Excel 'Hethel Celebration' One of the last 40 Excels made before the end of production they were jazzed up and more luxurious than the standard model. I bought it, about 5 years ago, paid a lot for it, way more than I have ever spent on a 'classic car' and drove it for a bit then decided it wasn't for me. It then sat in my garage for the last three years and I wanted to pretend it was not there, but it was as I checked on it every sodding day. I finally sold it, the money was wanted more than the car was. Brilliant car tbf, if you are a petrol head you have to own, at least, one Lotus in your life and the Excel was bloody good with Toyota under pinnings and a stonking 2.2 twin cam lump that pulled tree stumps up when overtaking in 3rd and 4th gear. Pity I am a V8 fan...... For the first time in my car owning life I made a tidy profit without even seeking one. That won't happen again!

It'll be some time before I own anything rarer than this Renault 6TL. Lost the mojo and sold it on after doing a fair bit to get it sorted. I do miss it, was a quirky thing, but I don't regret selling it.

Tbh this is pretty rare now, survival rates of Mk1 & Mk2 Allegros are much better due to BL tarting the Mk3 up with bits of water trapping plastic everywhere accelerating the rust issues. 😩

Another thought, my old micra was pretty rare, a 1.4 SE+ manual, 3dr. Most 1.4 were either auto, 5dr, or both. As nice as the sport+, but without the silly orange bits. Still a flippin micra though. I'm not quite sure whats rarer though, the car or the wheels I put on it.

Dolomite Sprint in Sapphire Blue - only around 350 made in this colour (ever), can't have been more than single digit numbers left in the UK when I had mine My current Accord Type R is getting rare, I believe around 400 left in the UK And my current daily Alpina D3, only 358 made for the UK. Seems wrong to be putting huge miles on what is a pretty rare car, but as a diesel I doubt it'll ever be valued as a classic, and I couldn't have a boring daily

My 1972 Mazda Rx2. Only 6 registered in the country but at least two of those are left hookers from Europe. Mine is an original Uk registered one. And, I have it’s whole life’s history as I managed to get all the paperwork from the DVLA before the freedom of information ban hit... Its along way from being on the road again,,but it will get there 😂
