Hey all!
Long time, no post!
Anyhoo, went to Dragstalgia at Santa Pod last weekend, a show I've been meaning to attend for a few years now but never quite made it to.
It did not disappoint! Forgive the slightly scattergun set of images, the image uploader has done them in a slightly odd order, and I basically wondered around like a headless chicken all weekend anyway!
Also, apologies if I get some of the cars wrong, I'm no expert on American metal.
Still, there were plenty of burnouts and wheelstands, and beautiful drag cars (and bikes).
Anyhow, to the pictures....
First thing to catch our eye as we wondered in on Saturday... a nicely done recovery truck with lots of custom touches... all draped over Leyland Daf running gear. 6BT FTW. For sale too...
Then it was a show tent next door containing the one and only Henry HiRise
Along with a few other cars, including these insane period minis
v4 power!
Then we meandered over to the Saturday show and shine area...
Lovely Chevy, feeling the lack of badging
Nice selection of tin on show
Failing to remember what this is.... but THAT STANCE!
#EnginesThatDontFit
Hot Rod looked like it loved a bit of burnout action...
Lovely purple'n'grey twosome going on here.
I have no idea what this is other than totally rad.
Details! (Ratfink watch in the wheel centre)
Got to respect a straight as an arrow gloss black muscle car
Love the look of the early "poached-egg" Minors
Convenient chopped / not chopped side-by-side comparison
Red perspex roof is awesome
Loving touches like the pinstriped drum backplates
Guess the car....................................................
Shoebox (?) with mega green details was a lovely thing
BIKES! Being a two-stroke owner these days, anything with expansion chambers took my fancy... never saw this one run sadly...but loving the arc of those exhausts
Kawasaki 750 2 stroke triples were in decent supply, including one original bike I saw riding out of the event on Sunday. Top work that man.
Oh, I heard you like engines...
Then we happened to wander up the racing queue somehow... so much goodness
FD Wagon way faster than you'd expect
FRITE!
Now Thats What I Call Fitment
Shady green thing was on questionably old tyres, still getting a beating though.
Renault(?) Hot-rod had some cool details. Loved the blue perspex windows
How many early minors are there here! Epic woody dragster.
I think this used to be "Grounds For Divorce"? Still running well.
Came across a gaggle of Gassers.... not going to lie one of the highlights of the show for me....
No idea what this thing is other than stone cold awesome
Roarin' Rat
?Topolino?
This guy was bang-shifting all weekend and always launched super hard
Full on shortened wheelbase nuttyness
Nice rod just parked up among the dragsters
Bad Altitude
This Falcon was a favourite of mine, I have to say
Gas Junkie
God I love purple cars
Burnout time
Hey! You're meant to be doing a burnout not a wheelie! Race hasnt started yet!
Ermergerd.... Cougar
Things-I-didn't-know-I-liked #1234123: Swedish Nostagia Funny Cars
Nitro burning means gas mask time
Toolboxes need rims too
Tidy P5B
Barn find period drag-doge
Nostalgia funny cars
Plus a bonus HC for scale
Drag bikes still terrify me
I think this guy had the full period getup, including the silver firesuit and gloves. Made for quite the outfit.
So shiny...
...and not. Both awesome.
Okay, how many woody Minors are now dragsters?
Thats a serious looking early Willys
Holy Moly. They were still in early stages of shaking this down I think.
Party in the back
This thing launched so hard... purple too. See a theme?
Suddenly a wild Volvo Gasser appears.
Details
Always have a soft spot for a Nova...
High and low
I want to know more about this one
I SEE YOU
Epic stance
Ok, you know I like Novas, Purple cars, and purposeful dragsters? Well HELLO
Honestly just got overwhelmed at this point
I'm not normally a MASSIVE mustang fan, but this definitely tickled my fancy.
MOAR PURPLE
Not sure if ghetto or genius....
I think the only Avenger part left on this was the tailights
Another faster-than-you-expect wagon.
Love the paintjob on this
Along with its stablemate
Going for a theme
Appropriate campers were happening
Strong support truck representation was going on
Ooof
Lovely combo of purple and beige
This thing was extremely rad! Just look at it!
A lot of bikes seemed to suffer clutch sadness throughout the day... thats another 750 two stroke
...and another one
don't often see ratty corvettes, they are normally the first to get the shiny resto treatment
Fire-up lane mood
In action!
So I like Novas, purple, purposeful drag cars AND wheel stands! YASSSSS! It went higher than this, but the tree got in the way!
BURNOUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
End of the day cracklefest. Doesnt really come over in pictures but good fun.
Fire burnout was a bit short (cant blame the chap though!) As always, would have had a great shot until someone stood up, oh well!
Like the fire still happening in the reflection
...and finally, Elvis.
I highly recommend going next year
Apologies for any hap-hazardness, typed this up at lunch!
