The floor of my Kadett, they had used an oven plate welded with some pigeon sh..t welds in three places to cover up the big gaping hole under the seat, the carpet was basically everything that held the seat in.
Also, rust holes in the front wings was covered with filler, with ice cream sticks and toilet paper behind the hole as some reinforcement..... even worse the chunks of filler were just sanded smooth so it still looked like there was dimples on the fender, and they were sprayed over with flat black....on an orange car?

Imagine, the rev counter has stopped working in your automatic. Why not just buy an aftermarket gauge with a built in shift light (yes, for an auto ?) then try and mount it slap bang in front of the broken one, make a small bracket drill two holes into the dashboard, fill the back full of black silicone to stop it tapping on the glass of old unit, and voila jobs a good un

forgive me father for i have bodged!! after 2.5 years , the first mechanical failure on my £300 pug... the rear box snapped off on my way home from work yesterday. now ordinarily i would have effected more of a permanant repair but a colleague in work has a n.o.s centre section in his shed...but is on holiday for 2 weeks. so bodgy bodge time it is!! a sleeve in a sleeve , 2 clamps , a big gob of instant nails (no exhaust paste..fingers crossed its not flammable as its not solvent based!) , a jubilee clip , nut & washer later and voila... a thing of beauty!!!!! should hold for a couple of weeks ... why buy when you can scrounge!

I'll try and get some photos tomorrow, but we've just had the best engine bodge I've ever seen - Nissan 370Z that had a pair of unknown bearing shells in wedged inside the knocked out old bearing shells to take up the damage on the crank so it could be sold through auction.

I have to say when I bought my Mondeo the PO had lost all the screws to the door card whilst trying to bodge the window, I may have used wood screws in that until I went to a scrappy, that was 12 months ago and I've been at least 5 times and forgotten

wood screws may have been useful with these 6mm plywood seat mountings secured to the floor pan with 10mm diameter bolts using 2 nuts to set the height and 4 6mm bolts to hold it to the seats.

When I was 17 30 something years ago we all ran cheap cars, a mate had a 2 door mk1 escort which cost around £100, he wanted more modern seats and an hour or 2 at the scrapie got us a pair of tastefull blue velour seats out of something Japanese for a tenner. We threw them in the car and they were way too low, a quick scout around found us the top of a rotten 3" fence post and some 8mm studding half an hour later and they were in resting on the fence post, he had for several years and it passed a number of MOT's like this.

I then looked at the hub when I'd got it off. I have no idea what was going through someones mind but take a look at the face of the hub on the left. Someone had attacked it with an angry grinder. I cannot for the life of me think why. It wasn't even straight... There is no excuse in the slightest for that kind of foolery, however, I might have a vague idea why it’s like that. Did the car have 7.5” brakes fitted? It seems a combination of late hub castings and poorly made replacement 7.5” discs cause problems in these areas. I fitted a 7.5” brake kit to a late 90’s MPI. The “bell” section of the disc once tightened down fouled against the hub. When I compared the later hubs to my 60s hubs they were noticeably different. I had the hub and disc machined to the correct tolerances, however it seems as thought he previous owner of your car simply cut the shoulder off of the hub! A solution, but not a wise one. If it’s not 7.5” discs then no idea!

mrbounce Well, I’m baffled then, it’s just ridiculous. I’ve seen a set of MG metro turbos run on 7.5” discs under 10”s. That was somewhat of a bodge in itself I think.

A guy I know had a stretch Lincoln Towncar (hen party transport, you know the sort of thing) Bit of a bucket to be honest.
The thing had major electrical issues. There was an additional "distribution board" behind the driver's seat. And it really was a board - chip-board! Wood screws aplenty in that, and not just holding the board to the partition: there were plenty in the fuse holders as well.
A right sorry mess. I fixed the LED interior lights, electric windows and the stereo. The rest got ripped out.
The heap failed its next PSV on grot, and got scrapped. At least the 4.6 V8 lived on, some maniac from Ballymena bought it, talked about sticking it in the back of a Golf.
