Not THAT retro but, just before the biggest Audi show of the year, my TT has developed a very unpleasant noise
Replaced the DP & exhaust, upgraded dogbone mount bushes, remapped yesterday and I've driven about 50 miles pain-free. Then got in this morning and was greeted by this racket:
It doesn't happen in reverse and seems pretty consistent irrespective of speed - just waiting for a break in the weather but anyone got any best guesses as to what's going on?

Had similar on a Clio when I caught the exhaust on a kerb and it pushed it so it was contacting the dogbone mount. Limped it home thinking it was broken and then noticed the shiny spot on the exhaust.

Well I got the car back up today and found this on the O/S So that's 95% of the grinding stopped with delicate application of a flathead. There's still a bit of a buzz at lower speeds and I know my new exhaust has dropped slightly and is touching the heatshield at the back of the car, so I'm wondering if it's that. At most normal driving speeds you can't hear it but I know it's there :-( Reading a lot online about 3" downpipes being a bad fit but it's well clear of the propshaft and tunnel, so is the flexy and I removed some heatshielding that threatened to foul. The uprated dogbone is well away from it and the new bolts for that are in tight. Another option is engine mounts :-(

Are your dust shields loose on your discs?
I was out in mine and the oil pressure warning light flashes on. I instantly shut the car off and rolled to a stop, which was met with the worst sound I’ve ever heard in my life. I naturally presumed it was a complete engine failure.
It wasn’t. Coincidentally as I turned into a lay-by the dust sheild had somehow come in contract with the disc and made the noise. No idea how!

Harder engine mounts may be cheaper but this unfortunately tends to be the trade-off.
The only engine mounts I've seen almost as quiet as OEM are the VibraTechnics mounts. My Pug 205 was super noisy inside on Group N Rubber mounts. It was nicer to drive but anyone who drove the car other than me (i.e my dad) thought the car was broken at certain points in the rev range as the dash etc. vibrated.
Peugeots are known to suffer with this as are some Renaults.
