Hi folks,
Some of you might know this car already, I've had it for a few years and have enjoyed my time owning it - however I just don't have the time or the patience to keep putting the work into it and so it's time for it to find a new home. Maybe your home.
WHAT ON EARTH IS IT?
The car started life as a 1988 K10 Micra 1.0 GSX. During its life it was bestowed with a contrasting black Super S bodykit. Then during my ownership, it received a CG10 16v engine from a 1998 Micra that was otherwise doomed to rust. The engine is run by a non-immobilised ECU from a 1993 car and so retains its ignition system and fuel injection. It has a BMW GS motorcycle fuel pump in the tank which seems to work fine given the low requirements of the engine. The exhaust is cobbled together from the remains of the K10 system and the K11 manifold and catalyst. Yes, it still has the catalyst, so if you were so inclined you could replace it with a nice 4-1 system instead.
It has the original 5-speed gearbox which matches up perfectly to the CG10 engine. One mount has been fabricated on the engine side to accommodate the different layout of the engine. The engine had 58k miles when I put it in the car. The car itself is on 125k, or around there.
The car is lowered on Spax coilovers with fairly low rate springs to give a comfortable ride. They look a little shabby but when I had them apart they were dry and still provided good damping. They are also adjustable. The springs have seen only 500 miles of use and are in perfect condition.
Bodywork is tatty but solid, surface rust underneath but nothing structural.
The car USED to sit on 12" Starmags (see photos), but these HAVE BEEN REPLACED with 14" Pirelli P-Slots painted in gunmetal grey. They have brand new Evergreen tyres all round which have covered exactly no miles. At present the car is on 10mm spacers all around.
I also have an non-immobilised CG13 ECU if indeed you wanted to switch the engine out for the more powerful CG13. The loom is the same so all that would be required would be to switch the flywheel and clutch to the replacement engine. This was the plan before I got bored with it.
SO WHAT'S THE BAD NEWS?
I put the car away a year or two ago in order to take off the bodykit and tidy it up (see photos). I did it with rattlecans and it's okay, I suppose.
However, in this time I bought another few projects and have been working on them and so the Micra has been forgotten. I've come to start it today and the fuel pump wasn't priming. After an hour or so removing it from the tank and getting the pump going the car fired up and ran, albeit with a misfire on cyl #3. I suspect the fuel is old and crappy or the spark plug is curse word. I don't know and I don't care any more.
MOT has expired and car will need trailering or similar.
All in all this is a cool little car which just needs someone with a little time and knowledge to put it back together and finish it off. It's not worth much but I'd feel bad scrapping it so hopefully it can find a new home here.
Thanks!
