Summary : My Hunter needs significant repairs to the NSF, following a crash where the other driver had admitted liability I think my options are as below, if anyone has any advice / info pls let me know ASAP #1 I pay for all repairs (not practical, but it avoids the insurance implacations) #2 I claim from his (her?) insurers (a possibility - but they won't pay for my labour to repair the damage !! ) #3 I claim from my insurers (who will write it off - despite it being one of only 10 left on the road !) Heelp !

Karma - are you listening ?? I've happily given Hunter parts away for free in the past rather than scrap bits that might keep various Hunters on the road in the future < insert Halo smiley> If anyone has any spare / free / cheap front-end Arrow parts, please let me know ASAP ! My choices are either to : scrap a (one of less than 10 remaining) Hunter Estate fix it up (Help - please !!! ) A very quick look before the recovery wagon turned up says damaged / missing / suspect parts include : Panels : NSF wing (annonying as the NOS steel wing was less than 5 years old), Bonnet (any Arrrow pls !), front slam panel/valance (maybe), front bumper. Mechanical (as a precaution) : Complete front suspension especially TCA + steering linkages (maybe also x-member, arb, rack/pinion, etc ?)

Oh no, that's sad to see. Has the person who caused it admitted liability? If so I'd claim off her insurance, get some quotes for repair and get as much as you can to go towards it. Might not cover your total costs but if you go for rarity prices on NOS panels it may work out OK

Ive had similar accident (swerved to avoid a speeding volvo on the wrong.side of the road and hit a wall) in a 1974 beetle. It hadnt crossed my mind i may be able to prove it wasnt my fault. I decided after that the next time ill just hit them (car to car not fist to face). I had to cut the front end off and replace it all and respray the car. Depending on what the other person has said i don't know if the insurance route would work. Did the second car see what happened and stop? It may be a case of getting it home, seeing exactly how bad it is and if its fixable just getting stuck in

Your insurance won't treat it as a repairable but uneconomical write off, which you can then buy back from them? That's what I did with mine (different country, mind).
That inner wing and tower look a bit mishapen...

Oh that's bad luck, cant help with the parts unfortunately, I have to say unless you have any firm proof eg pictures/third party admitting liability etc to claim on your insurance will just open up a world of pain/hastle/delay that will drag on for months
Wherever the car has been taken they will also charge storage which mounts up very quickly

I presume you’ve spoken to this advertiser already? Where are you at the moment? Did the person that caused the accident admit liability?

Updates & my current thoughts : One of the first problems is going to be to find a value for the car (I've seen very few Hunter estates for sale, so there's nothing to compare it with) Recovery took the car back to their yard last night as the truck that collected the wreck is too big to fit in my street, they are bringing the wreck home to me later today (using a smaller truck). The 2 cars behind me stopped and gave me their details as witnesses, and a passing Tesco delivery driver was a star (waited with us for the recovery, and directed traffic around the wreck). Myself & passenger both walked away which is the man thing.

Ah, that's good then. Glad it's sufficiently covered as the brief description left me feeling you might have been hung out to dry. I think I'll remove my post now just for basic hygiene. You never know who might be reading these things

That's not nice to see, though I'm glad you and the passenger are okay.

Now they've reported it their insurers will either contact you direct or ask to deal with your insurers direct. Whichever way you go you will now have an accident (claim ?) history even though not your fault, so might as well see what the insurers do. I suspect it will be a cat n or S as that inner wing will have consequences elsewhere. Still possibly rebuildable so if they write it off you buy back. As for value you need to find evidence of other Hunter estates values (owners club?) to help your argument. What is the car valued at under your insurance?

Glad you all OK, that is the main thing, had you hit the other car could have worked out differently. Might be worth asking for payment in lieu of repair ? 'Honest John' is worth a shout on proper insurance advise. Bumhats. James

Sounds like it shouldn’t be terrible.
A mate had something similar, repair would have written his van off, so they agreed to a payout and he sorted repair himself and then sent photos in. So hopefully you’ll get that or it’ll just be fixed
Anyway, good luck

Pete - Sorry to see this - hopefully it can be resolved but from experience the insurers regardless of which or who's insurance company it is and regardless of how rare the car is will deem it has uneconomical to repair - easiest way around this to get them to pay you out but insist on retaining salvage of the car (you might have to fight hard for this but stick to your guns) - I would think that there are enough used parts out there to undertake the repair even if it takes a while to gather them together. If I can help / assist at all please don't hesitate to get in touch (I don't need the work and not bothered about any financial gain either) just a pure offer of help / assistance / advice from one RR member to another - Chris

You are in a good position if they have admitted fault and have a few witnesses.
There insurance company will more than likely want to deal with you direct, as it will usually keep there costs down, you would hope this would make it simpler for them to give you a decent payout and to fix yourself.
Be straight with them and tell them what you want from word the start, if they mess you about tell them you will now be going through your insurance company and you now need a hire car from them. Just the fees they will get charged for a hire car could easily add up to more than your cars value.
good luck
